Art as a protest medium, new media effect and the banksy case

The relationship between the artist, the concept of art and the art work which
has been one of the debated issues since the beginning of the history of the
civilization, now has moved into another dimension in the world interconnected
with the global networks. The work art which has lost its aura and
uniqueness in the era of multiplication has gained a different aura and initiated
new debates with the rise of internet. Together with the introduction of the
conceptual art the art work which has got its own problematic and message
began to interact with its own audience. This interaction at the same time
makes the audience as a part of the art work. The conceptual art work delivers
the message by using daily objects and the circles. The illegal techniques such
as graffiti which are usually seen as vandalism deliver the social criticism messages
more strongly. The contentious art works attracts great interest by the
experts and the collectors. These art works which have been titled as the Protest
Art or Activist Art have been prized as much as with those works exhibits
in the art galleries. These works which meet their audience in the streets rather
than in the art galleries and no sooner than uploaded to the internet multiplies
innumerable, independent from the time and space. Even though they
are erased and removed from the application, they keep on transmitting the
messages. In this study, Graffiti artist Banksy’s works which are saleable at
quite high prices, but are not treated as legal, and whose messages spread
into large masses through the new media will be analyzed within the context
of the conceptual art.

An ınvestigation of the relationship between problem-solving skills, cynicism and trait anxiety levels in students studying in the faculty of fine art and design

This study aims to investigate the relationship between problem-solving skills,
cynicism and trait anxiety levels in students studying in the Faculty of Fine Art
and Design, in terms of gender, high school they graduated, department they
study and family income variables. The working group of the research is comprised
of a total of 204 students, 123 female and 81 male students studying in
the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Inonu University, and Faculty of Fine Arts
in Görele, Giresun University, during Spring Semester in 2016-2017 academic
year. The study was conducted using a relational survey model. As data collection
tools were utilized "Problem Solving Inventory", "Overall Cynicism
Scale", "Trait Anxiety Inventory" and a "Personal Information Form" developed
by the researcher. According to findings; there is a statistically significant difference
between male and female students’ mean scores of cynicism. It is
revealed that the female students’ mean scores are higher than the male students'
scores. There is no statistically significant difference between gender
and trait anxiety levels and problem solving skills. There is no statistically significant
difference between cynicism, trait anxiety levels and problem-solving
skills in terms of ‘the high school they graduated’ variable. There is no statistically
significant difference between the cynicism and trait anxiety mean
scores of the students participating in the research in terms of ‘the department
they study’. However, there is a statistically significant difference between students'
problem-solving skills in terms of ‘the department they study’. Students
studying at the Department of Painting have higher problem solving skills.
There is no statistically significant difference between the students’ means
scores regarding cynicism, trait anxiety levels and problem solving skills in
terms of ‘family income’ variable. No significant correlation was observed between
students' overall cynicism scores and overall anxiety scores, and between
cynicism scores and overall problem solving skills scores. There was a
weak positive and significant correlation between overall trait anxiety scores
and problem solving skills scores.

Seramik bölümlerinde okuyan öğrencilerin cinsiyet, mezun oldukları lise, okudukları
bölüm ve aile gelir durumu değişkenlerine göre sahip oldukları problem
çözme becerisi, sinizm ve sürekli kaygı düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin araştırılmasıdır.
Araştırmanın Çalışma grubunu 2016-2017eğitim-öğretim yılında Bahar
dönemi İnönü Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fakültesinde ve Giresun
Üniversitesi Görele Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesinde 123 kız, 81 erkek öğ-
renci olmak üzere toplam 204 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma ilişkisel tarama
modelinde yürütülmüştür. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Problem Çözme
Envanteri”, “Genel Sinizm Ölçeği”, “Sürekli Kaygı Envanteri” ve araştırmacı
tarafından geliştirilen “Kişisel Bilgi” formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara
göre; araştırmaya katılan kız ve erkek öğrencilerin sinizm puan ortalamaları
arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılaşma görülmektedir. Kız öğrencilerin
puan ortalamaları, erkek öğrencilerin puan ortalamalarından daha yüksek
olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Cinsiyet ile sürekli kaygı düzeyleri ve problem
çözme becerileri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılaşmaya rastlanmamıştır.
Öğrencilerin mezun oldukları lise türüne göre sinizm, sürekli kaygı
düzeyi ve problem çözme beceri puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak
da anlamlı bir farklılaşma gözlenmemiştir. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin
sinizm ve sürekli kaygı puan ortalamaları arasında öğrenim gördükleri bölümlere
göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık görülmese de, öğrencilerin
problem çözme becerilerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık ortaya çıkmıştır.
Örneğin; Resim Bölümü öğrencilerinin problem çözme becerilerinin
daha yüksek olması gibi. Öğrencilerin problem çözme becerileri, sinizm ve
sürekli kaygı düzeyleri puan ortalamalarının aile gelir durumuna göre istatistiksel
olarak anlamlı bir farklılık elde edilememiştir. Öğrencilerin toplam sinizm
puanları ile toplam kaygı puanları arasında ve sinizm puanları ile toplam problem
çözme becerileri puanları arasında anlamlı bir ilişkiye rastlanmamıştır. Sü-
rekli kaygı toplam puanları ile problem çözme becerileri puanları arasında zayıf
pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı bir ilişkiye rastlanmıştır.

Alternative non-toxic searchings in chemically processed etching

For centuries, engraving, which is used in printing as a technique of printing
and in the field of art as a means of expression, is a method developed for the
access of the works of the artists to more people and reproduction of their
works. Engravings reflect the natural environment, cultural and social life of
the period in which they are built as well as artistic values, and show us the
changes and carry important documentary qualities. It is noted that traditional
methods are used in art education in Turkey and in engraving techniques applied
in special artist workshops. This has been proven in researches that
have traditionally been used to paint techniques and the health-threatening
harmful effects of their materials. It is known that asphalt varnish used as a
plate preservative, nitric acid used for abrading, especially used in conventional
methods, causes health problems and poses a serious threat to cancer
and death in advanced stages.
In this study, successful results were obtained by using polyol and talens liquid
masking film in the primer-related tests used to protect the plate surface. Instead
of nitric acid, zinc salt can be used as abrasive salt, copper abrasive
can be used as abrasive. As a different technique, non-toxic techniques such
as sprayed aquatinta, sugary tile, collagraphy, carborundum and chine collec
were tried and successful results were obtained. Young people who prefer art
education face very early ages with harmful and carcinogenic substances that
should not be in the educational process. In order to prevent this, it is urgent
to change the techniques and materials applied in the training process to nontoxic
ones.

kullanılan gravür, sanatçıların eserlerinin daha çok kişiye ulaşması,
eserlerinin çoğaltılması için geliştirilen bir yöntemdir. Gravürler, sanat değerlilerinin
yanı sıra yapıldığı dönemdeki doğal çevreyi, kültürel ve sosyal hayatı
yansıtarak değişimleri bize göstermekte ve önemli birer belge niteliği taşımaktadırlar.
Türkiye’de sanat eğitiminde ve özel sanatçı atölyelerinde uygulanan
gravür tekniklerinde geleneksel yöntemlerin kullanıldığı dikkat çeker. Bu geleneksel
baskı resim tekniklerinin ve malzemelerinin sağlığı tehdit eden zararlı
etkilerinin olduğu yapılan araştırmalarda ispatlanmıştır. Özellikle geleneksel
yöntemlerde plaka koruyucu olarak asfalt verniği ve aşındırma için kullanılan
nitrik asidin sağlık problemlerine yol açtığı ve ileri aşamalarda kansere ve
ölüme neden olacak kadar ciddi tehdit oluşturduğu bilinmektedir.
Bu araştırmada, plaka yüzeyini korumak için kullanılan astarla ilgili” Polizolan”
ve “Talens sıvı maskeleme film” kullanılarak başarılı sonuçlar elde edilmiştir.
Aşındırıcı olarak nitrik asit yerine çinkoda tuz sülfat aşındırıcı, bakırda edinburg
aşındırıcı kullanılabileceği görülmüştür. Farklı teknikler olarak” spreyli
aquatinta”, “şekerli çini”, “kollagrafi”, “karborundum” ve “chine colle” gibi toksik
olmayan teknikler denenmiş ve başarılı sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Sanat eğitimini
tercih eden gençlerimiz, eğitim sürecinde olmaması gereken zararlı ve
kanserojen maddelerle çok erken yaşlarda karşı karşıya gelmektedir. Buna
engel olabilmek için de eğitim sürecinde uygulanan tekniklerin ve malzemelerin
toksik olmayanlarla yer değiştirmesi ivedilik arz etmektedir.

The contributions of ceramic training to a physician

This study examines the contributions of ceramic training to prospective physicians
in personal and professional domains in an elective course entitled
‘Three-dimensional imagining through Ceramics in Medicine’, selected for the
first time by prospective physicians in the second semester in Faculty of Medicine,
Inonu University. 80 people enrolled in the course, and a total of 45
participants, 23 women and 22 men, were randomly selected as volunteers,
out of students with perfect attendance. Participants have an average age of
18 and 25, and ‘coming from different cities and countries’ was taken into consideration
while selecting the participants. In the research, qualitative research
method was used to collect detailed and in-depth data, to directly learn the
individual perceptions, experiences and perspectives of the participants, and
to understand and explain current situations. Participants were asked openended
questions regarding their mental processes they have observed, manipulative
skills, creativity, sharing and achievements about this course. Students'
responses to these questions were qualitatively examined and analyzed
by content analysis method.
While examining the findings obtained, it was collaborated with three experts
in different fields, and responses from students' feedback were collected under
2 theme and 13 categories. The experts specified these classifications as
numerical values and provided frequency and percentage ratios in Tables 1
and 2. The numerical values of the categories collected under the themes in
both tables were sorted descending by size, and categories were explained
by sample expressions of students. An overall evaluation of the study was
presented by reading these tables in detail, discussing and referencing to similar
research present in literature. The study ends in results and suggestions
sections.
