Türk düşünce tarihi'nde Ahmed Vefik Paşa'nın yeri ve önemi

Abstract

17. yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren başlayan Osmanlı modernleşme teşebbüsleri 19. Yüzyıla gelindiğinde ivme kazanmakla beraber genel yapısında da bir takım değişiklikler yaşamıştır. Bu değişiklikler beraberinde Osmanlı devlet adamı ve entelektüel formunun değişmesine de sebebiyet vermiştir. Böyle bir ortamda dünyaya gelen Ahmed Vefik Paşa, babasının devlet kademelerinde aldığı görevlerin kendisine sağladığı imkânları iyi değerlendirmeyi bilmiştir. Nitekim bu çerçevede küçük yaşlarda yurt dışına gitmiş ve eğitimini yurt dışında almıştır. Mustafa Reşit Paşa ile küçük yaşlardan itibaren beraber olma imkânını yakalamıştır. Yurda döndükten sonra devletin çeşitli kademelerin görev almış, kendine mahsus yöneticilik tarzı ve diplomasi üslubu ile özgünlüğünü ortaya koymuştur. Devlet adamlığının yanı sıra almış olduğu eğitimin ve birçok dil biliyor olmasının etkisi ile sadece devlet adamı yönü ile ön plana çıkmamış yanı sıra edebiyat, tiyatro, felsefe, tarih gibi alanlarda uğraşmış ve isminden söz ettirmeyi başarmıştır. Nitekim bu alanlarla ilgili telif ve tercüme eserler kaleme almıştır. Dönemin siyasal koşulları içerinde Osmanlıcı söylemin hâkim olduğu bir ortamda özellikle Türkoloji bağlamında yaptığı çalışmalarla Türk milliyetçiliğinin kurucuları arasında kendine mahsus bir yer edinmeyi başarmıştır.
