The Effectiveness of Sexual Psycho-Education Program for 8th Grade Students

Abstract

Öz Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaokul 8. sınıf öğrencilerine yönelik hazırlanan cinsel sağlık psiko-eğitim programının öğrencilerin ergenlik dönemi, istismar ve toplumsal cinsiyet konuları ile ilgili bilgi düzeyleri ve tutumları üzerindeki etkisini test etmektedir. Bu çalışmada, ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Deney grubunda 24 (10 erkek-14 kız) öğrenci; kontrol grubunda 24 (10 erkek-14 kız) öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 48 öğrenci bu çalışmanın araştırma grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Deney grubundaki katılımcılara Cinsel Sağlık Psiko-Eğitimi uygulanırken; kontrol grubundaki katılımcılara konuyla ilgili herhangi bir müdahale yapılmamıştır. Araştırma bulguları, deney grubuna uygulanan cinsel sağlık eğitimi programının öğrencilerin ergenlik dönemi ve toplumsal cinsiyet konularındaki bilgi düzeylerinde kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı bir farklılık olduğunu (p<.05); fiziksel, duygusal, cinsel istismar konularındaki bilgilerini artırmada ise kontrol grubuyla deney grubu arasında anlamlı bir farklılığın olmadığını göstermektedir (p<.05). Araştırma sonuçları cinsel sağlık eğitiminin 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin ergenlik dönemi ve toplumsal cinsiyet konularındaki bilgilerini olumlu yönde arttırdığını, istismar konusundaki bilgilerini ise etkilemediğini göstermektedir. Abstract The aim of the study is to test the effects of the sexual health psycho-education program on the 8th graders’ knowledge level and attitude towards the adolescence, abuse and social gender roles. Quasi-experimental design with a pre and posttest control group was conducted in this study. The sample of the study is composed of 48 students in total. There were 24 students (10 male-14 female) in the experimental group and 24 students (10 male-14 female) in the control group. The students in the experimental group received the Sexual Health Psycho-Education Program; whereas, the students in the control group received no intervention about the subject. The findings of the study indicated that sexual psycho-education program created a significant difference (p<.05) between the knowledge level of the experimental and control group students on the adolescence and social gender subjects. However, there was no significance about the physiological, emotional and sexual abuse (p<.05). The results of the study showed that the sexual health psycho-education program increased the 8th graders knowledge level about adolescence and social gender subjects although it didn’t affect their knowledge of abuse.
