Motorlarda yakıt-hava karışım oranını ideal değerinde tutacak bir kapalı çevrim denetim sisteminin oluşturulması, zararlı egzoz emisyonlarının azaltılması ve daha iyi motor performansı sağlanması açısından gereklidir. Yanmamış hidrokarbonları ve karbonmonoksiti aynı anda oksitleyip, nitrojen oksidin miktarını azaltan üç fonksiyonlu bir cihaz olan katalitik dönüştürücü, yakıt/hava oranının 0.068 (1/14.7) değerinden sapması durumunda neredeyse etkisiz hale gelir. Değişken zaman gecikmeli sistemler ve doğrusal olmayan sistem parametrelerini doğrusal hale getirerek sistemin performans ve robustluk arasında ideal bir nokta elde etmek için araştırmacılar çalışma yapmaktadır. Bu çalışmada buji ateşlemeli bir motorun yakıt-hava oranı kontrolü için ağırlıklı geometrik merkez temeline dayalı robust PI kontrolü, ağırlıklı geometrik merkez temeline dayalı kazanç programlamalı PI kontrolü ve referans ağırlığı ile kazanç programlamalı PI kontrol tasarımı yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak buji ateşlemeli motor sisteminin PI algoritmalı yakıt-hava oranı kontrolü, Matlab/Simulink ortamında gerçekleştirilerek elde edilen sonuçlar değerlendirilmiştir.
