The applique method that adds dimension and texture to clothing fashion

Abstract

In fashion world, clothing design is one of the designing disciplines, which is affected by historical, socio-cultural and economic factors. Being also described as an expression language within creativity, clothing fashion is taking form by taking human body into consideration in terms of rabidly changing taste and environmental circumstances. Up to present, it has benefitted from various embroidering methods in order to lift effectiveness, enriching symbolism and increasing the emphasis in clothes. One of these embroidering methods is the applique method which dates back to before Christ era. Applique is a kind of method of acquiring a texture by sewing flat or patterned pieces of fabric on a ground fabric in order to form a brand-new ground. In this study, the applique method - being one of the significant and basic embroidering techniques of the textile history, having taking a hold of today’s fashion world and being an inspiration for many designers- is briefly scrutinised, and it is presented how it became a work of art and genuine design by presenting the comments of today’s world-widely known clothing designers and studying clothing history and latest trends. Moda dünyası içinde giyim tasarımı, tarih, sosyo-kültürel ve ekonomik faktörlerden etkilenen tasarım disiplinlerinden biridir. Yaratıcılıkta bir ifade dili olarak da nitelendirilen giyim modası, hızla değişen beğeni ve çevresel koşullar çerçevesinde insan bedeni göz önüne alınarak şekillenmektedir. Geçmişten bugüne giysilerdeki etkiyi ve sembolizmi güçlendirmek, vurguyu arttırmak için çeşitli süsleme tekniklerinden destek alınmıştır. Bu süsleme tekniklerinden biri de kökleri Milattan Öncesine dayanan aplike tekniğidir. Aplike, yepyeni bir yüzey oluşturmak için, var olan bir zemin kumaşına, düz renk ya da desenli kumaş parçalarının eklenmesiyle oluşturulan bir tür doku elde etme yöntemidir. Bu çalışmada, tekstil tarihinin önemli ve temel süsleme tekniklerinden olan, günümüz moda dünyasını da zaman zaman etkisi altına alan ve pek çok tasarımcıya ilham kaynağı oluşturan aplike tekniği kısaca irdelenmiş olup, giysi tarihi ve güncel eğilimler incelenerek, dünya çapında yerini almış, günü- müz giysi tasarımcılarının yorumlarıyla nasıl birer sanat eseri ve özgün tasarıma dönüştükleri örneklerle desteklenerek anlatılmıştır.
