Both the role of Turgut Özal in 1980‟s decisions and being the prime minister in 1983 made this term mentioned with his name. The main theme of the economy policies applied under the auspices of Özal term is to functionalize the liberal economy, weakening the role of the state in the economy and “the classic stabilization role” of the price mechanism. Within the framework of the study, the developments and consequences of these performances under the term Özal have been analyzed.1980-1990 yılları arasında Türkiye Ekonomisi‟ndeki gelişmeler “Özal Dönemi” olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Turgut Özal‟ın hem 1980 kararlarındaki rolü hem de 1983‟te başbakan olması, bu dönemin onun ismiyle anılmasına sebep olmuştur. Özal döneminde uygulanan ekonomi politikalarının ana teması, serbest piyasa ekonomisi, devletin ekonomideki payının azaltılması ve fiyat mekanizmasının “klasik dengeleyici rolü”nün işlerlik kazandırılmasıdır.
