In this study, it was carried out to determine the effect of museum-based teaching practices in social studies on students. The study was conducted with 5th grade students in two secondary schools in the Battalgazi and Pütürge districts of Malatya in 2018-2019 academic years. Mixed method research model was used in the research. In the first stage, two groups, namely the experimental and control groups, participated in the teaching practices. In the context of teaching practices, the students of the experimental group performed activities entitled “My Work” and “Find in the Museum” which were determined by the researchers who were taken to the Malatya museum. The second stage was designed as a case study and interview method was used. As a result of the research, it has been found out that teaching practices based on museum education within the scope of “Culture and Heritage” unit of the experimental group are effective in enhancing the academic achievement of the students, consolidating the subjects and maintaining learning permanence. © 2020.
