Worry and eagerness to learn of human being moderate its preferences. Therefore, the places interested with history have a special position in recreational places. Most different functions are loaded to the historical places used with the principle of protection and use. According to qualification of historical places, recreational functions are load to environment or itself of historical place. This situation is putted forth with analysis of recreational and touristic potential. Study was made for determination of recreational and touristic potential of Kurul Castel in Ordu City. The Kurul Castel is a places still continuing archeological dig and protected in statute of archeological site. It is important to both dig area and natural and cultural characteristics in its environment. It has high potential. Observations in the place were made for the study. Besides, the place was examined in various evaluation criteria. The recreation potential of the area was calculated with Gülez Method and was supported with SWOT analysis. In the study, recreation potential was determined %55 appropriate. According to this result, landscape value, climate value and transportability are above the average, but only recreation simplicity is below the average. Negative factors are at reasonable level. Keywords: Site area, protected area, protection, recreation potential, landscape architecture, cultural landscape, Gülez method.Tarihi ve arkeolojik alanlar geçmişin kültürel ve sosyal yapısı, alışkanlıkları ve yaşam tarzını yansıttıkları için dikkat çekici yerlerdir. İnsanoğlunun merakı ve öğrenme arzusu tercihlerini yönetir. Bu nedenle, tarihle ilişkili mekânlar rekreasyonel alanlar içerisinde özel bir yere sahiptir. Koruma kullanma ilkesiyle kullanıma açılan tarihi mekânlara pek çok farklı fonksiyon yüklenir. Niteliğine göre tarihi mekânların sadece kendisine, çevresine veya her ikisine rekreasyonel fonksiyonlar yüklenir. Bu durum rekreasyonel ve turizm potansiyelinin analizleri ile ortaya koyulur. Çalışma; Ordu ilinde bulunan Kurul Kalesi'nin rekreasyonel ve turizm potansiyelinin belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılmıştır. Kurul Kalesi, halen arkeolojik kazıları devam eden ve sit alanı statüsünde korunan bir alandır. Hem kazı alanı, hem de çevresindeki doğal ve kültürel özellikler nedeniyle önemli ve yüksek potansiyele sahiptir. Çalışma için yerinde gözlemler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ayrıca, alan çeşitli değerlendirme kriterleri açısından incelenmiştir. Alanın rekreasyonel potansiyeli Gülez Yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiş, swot analizi ile desteklenmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda rekreasyon potansiyelini belirlemek üzere puanlama tablosu yoluyla gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, alanın rekreasyonel potansiyeli %55 düzeyinde uygun olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu sonuca bakıldığında peyzaj değeri, iklim değeri ve ulaşılabilirliğin ortalamanın üstünde, sadece rekreatif kolaylığın ortalamanın altında olduğu görülmektedir. Olumsuz olabilecek etkenler ise son derece makul seviyededir.
