Abstract: OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine a relationship between the amniotic fluid lamellar body count (LBC) which is a fetal lung maturity (FLM) test and the Dubowitz scoring systems. STUDY DESIGN: Twenty amniotic fluid specimens were obtained from the patients who has a possibility of delivery BEFORE 36 weeks of gestation because of premature rupture of membrane. Lamellar body count was quantified electronic cell counter (Sysmex K800 medical electronics, Hamburg). Fetus was evaluated with modified Dubowitz scoring systems for determining the gestational age. Even it was assessed whether respiratory distress syndrome will occur or not. RESULT: The increased LBC are correlated with gestational age and also with Dubowitz scoring. But conversely, normally Dubowitz scores can be found with decreased LBC. RDS did not occur none of the patient of 13 whose lamellar body count is bigger than 30 000 particles/µl. In 3 of 7 patients whose lamellar body count is less than 30 000 particles/µl RDS was developed. CONCLUSIONS: LBC is a simple and reliable, inexpensive, objective method for fetal lung maturity so that it may be useful marker for screening of FLM, but it is not correlated with Dubowitz scoring systems.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLamellar body counts in amniotic fluid and the relation with Dubowitz scoring sysytemsAmniotik sıvı lamellar cisim sayısı ve Dubowitz skorlama sistemi ile ilişkisiArticle8320520717771
