Abstract:The purpose of this research is to investigate the correlation between secondary school students’levels of scientific tendency and their interest in the professions in the field of STEM. The sample of the researchis composed of middle school students studying at public school. Data were collected with “Scientific ValuesTendency Scale” and “Scale of Interest to STEM Professions”. A positive and moderate collection betweenstudents’ levels of scientific tendency and their interest in the professions in the field of STEM (r=.448; p<.001).It was also found that the Curiosity and Creativity sub-dimensions are variables that are of relevance to theSTEM profession, and the two dimensions account for %20,5 of the total variance. While there is no significantdifference in the level of students regarding STEM professions in terms of class level, there is a significantdifference in terms of “engineering” and “technology” in terms of gender.
Öz:Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaokul öğrencilerinin bilimsel değerlere eğilim düzeyi ile STEM mesleklerine olan ilgileri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Araştırmanın örneklemini bir devlet okulunda okuyan 200 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veriler “Bilimsel Değerlere Eğilim Ölçeği” ve “STEM Mesleklerine İlgi Ölçeği”nden elde edilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda, öğrencilerin bilimsel değerlere eğilimleri ile STEM meslek alanlarına ilgileri arasında pozitif yönde ve orta düzeyde bir ilişkinin olduğu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca merak ve yaratıcılık alt boyutlarının STEM mesleklerine ilgiyi yordayan değişkenler olduğu ve iki boyutun toplam varyansın %20,5’ini açıkladığı görülmüştür. Sınıf düzeyi açısından öğrencilerin STEM mesleklerine ilgileri arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmazken, cinsiyet değişkeni açısından “Mühendislik” ve “Teknoloji” alanında anlamlı bir fark görülmüştür.
