Renal simple cysts are frequent pathologies. In this study, therapeutic results of the renal simple cysts with percutaneous aspiration
were evaluated. The initial diagnosis was performed with ultrasonography (US) for all patients. Then, localization, size and nature of
the cysts were determined with computerized tomography. Under the local anesthesia and in flank position, the cysts content was
aspirated with 18 G metal needle with US guide. After the aspiration, absolute alcohol about 15% of the cyst content was injected. No
complication was emerged following the procedure. Biochemical and cytological investigations were performed in the aspirated fluid.
The patients were re-evaluated with US one year after the operation. Total 128 patients were studied (77 male; 51 female). Mean age
of the patients was 52.3 years (range: 37-71). The mean sizes of the cysts were 8.3 cm in diameter (4.8-11.3 cm). No pathologic
finding was determined in the cyst fluid. A total 27 patients (21.1%) developed symptomatic cystic relapses. We concluded that
percutaneous aspiration of simple renal cysts and alcohol injection were safe, successful and minimal invasive methods. |
