Turkey, apart from the mass tourism activities, is able to offer different alternatives to
visitors thanks to its resource values shaped by its unique geographical position and climatic
conditions. Especially the Eastern Black Sea Region, and Altındere Valley National Park
situated within this region, is among the rare places that can present numerous resource
values to their visitors all at the same time due to its rich biological diversity, history and
cultural heritage. Protection of these resource values, which play a crucial role in economic
progress of the regional and local people, is of great importance in terms of sustainability.
Today, it is undeniable that the approach of protecting visually rich landscapes
constitutes an important element of planning decisions in environmental planning and
management schemes. Therefore, in the current study, visually rich landscape areas located
within Altındere Valley National Park were identified making use of visual landscape quality
evaluation method, and they were classified in descending order. In this way, the areas that
need to be protected in the first place were determined and the precautions to be taken in
respect to sustainability were revealed.
