Üniversite öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet rolüne yönelik görüşleri

Abstract

Amaç: Bu araştırma üniversite öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet rolüne yönelik görüşlerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: İnönü Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören 706 öğrenci araştırma grubunu oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri literatür taranarak hazırlanan soru formu aracılığı ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde; sayı, yüzdelik, ortalama, bağımsız değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) ve bağımsız gruplarda t testi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %56.9‘unu kadın %56.1’i birinci, %43.9’u dördüncü sınıf öğrencisidir. Cinsiyet, aile tipi, anne eğitimi, yaşanılan yer ile cinsiyet rolüne ilişkin tutum toplam puanları arasında anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur, ancak birinci sınıf ile dördüncü sınıf ve baba eğitimi ile anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır. Sonuç ve Öneri: Öğrencilerin üniversite eğitim sırasında sınıflarının cinsiyet rollü üzerine etkili olmadığını ve annenin eğitim durumunun öğrencilerin cinsiyet rol ayrımcılığını azalttığı, bu durum toplumda cinsiyet rolünün farkının azaltılmasında annenin eğitimin daha etkin olabileceğini düşündürmektedir. Araştırma sonuçlarına dayanarak, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğine yönelik kulüplerin, öğrenci topluluklarının kurulması ve bu tür etkinliklere erkek öğrencilerin katılımının desteklenmesi önerilir.

Objective: The survey was conducted to learn about the opinion of university students on gender roles. Materials and Method: The survey group consisted of 706 students attending İnönü University. The survey data was collected by using a questionnaire prepared after going over the relevant literature. Methods used in data analysis included numbers, percentages, averages, unidirectional variance analysis (ANOVA) to evaluate relationship between independent variables and t-test for independent groups. Findings: Of students covered by the survey 56.9% are females, 56.1% are freshmen and 43.9% are seniors. When total scores on gender, family type, mother’s education status, place of settlement and gender roles are concerned there is statistically significant relationship between these and the grade of students. But no significant relationship was found between freshman and senior students with respect to father’s educational status. Conclusion and Suggestion: It may be concluded that grades of university students have no effect on conceptions about gender roles. However, it is found that the educational status of mother reduces students’ bias on gender roles, suggesting that mothers’ education could be an important factor in ensuring gender equality. On the basis of survey outcomes, it is suggested to encourage the establishment of gender equality clubs in universities and the participation of male students to these clubs.
