ÖZET
Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinin obezite durumlarını, Beden Kütle İndeksi, Biyoelektrik
impedans ve bel çevre ölçüm yöntemlerine göre tespit ederek, farklı ölçüm metotlarına göre elde edilen sonuçları
değerlendirmektir. Bu çalışmanın örneklemini Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi, Beden Eğitimi ve Spor
Yüksekokulunda öğrenim gören 209 kadın, 173 erkek toplam 382 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilerin Afyon
Kocatepe Üniversite Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Yüksekokulu fizyoloji laboratuvarında boy uzunluğu, vücut ağırlığı,
bel çevresi, kalça çevresi, Beden kütle indeksi ve Bioelektirk İmpedans Analizörü ile vücut analizleri ölçüldü.
Elde edilen veriler SPSS paket programında değerlendirildi. İstatistiksel analiz olarak tanımlayıcı istatistiklerden,
yüzde, frekans ve aritmetik ortalamalardan yararlanıldı. Sonuç olarak; üniversite öğrencilerinin beden kütle
indeksi değerlerine göre kadınların %24,87’sinin, erkeklerin %33,53’ünün aşırı kilolu ve obez oldukları,
biyoelektrik impedans sonuçlarına göre kadınların %30’unun kilolu ve obez, erkeklerin ise 20,23’ünün kilolu ve
obez oldukları; bel çevre ölçümlerine göre kadınların %40,67’sinin, erkeklerin ise %20,81’inin obezite kriterleri
için riskli ve yüksek riskli grup içerisinde yer aldıkları belirlenmiştir. Bu sonuçlar obezite tanı ve
değerlendirmede beden kütle indeksi, biyoelektrik impedans ve bel çevre ölçümlerinin farklı sonuçlar ortaya
koyduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda obezite risk değerlendirmesinde beden kütle indeksi ile birlikte
biyoelektrik impedans ve bel çevre ölçümlerinin birlikte kullanılmasının daha objektif sonuçlar vereceği
düşünülmektedir.

ABSTRACT
The aim of the current study was to determine obesity status of university students according to body
mass index (BMI), bioelectrical impedance method (BIA) and waistline and hip measurement method and to
assess the results obtained through these different measurement methods. The sample of this study was
consisted a total of 382 (209 female and 173 male) students from School of Physical Education and Sports,
Afyon Kocatepe University. Body analyses were made through heights, weights, waistline, hip measurements,
BMI and BIA at physiology lab of Afyon Kocatepe University, School of Physical Education and Sports. The
data obtained were processed using SPSS. The data were evaluated using such statistical analysis methods as
descriptive statistics, percentages and arithmetical means. In sum; it was found that according to BMI 24.87% of the female university students and 33.53% of male university students were overweight and obese; according to
BIA 30% of the female university students and 20.23% of male university students were overweight and obese
and according to and waist measurement method 40.67% of female students and 20.81% of male students were
in risky and highly risky groups in terms of obesity criteria. These indicated that BMI, BIA and waist
measurement demonstrated different results. Therefore; we are of the opinion that using BMI, BIA and waist
measurement together will provide more objective results for obesity risk evaluation.
