Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the different types of
questions related to cognitive development applied to preschool children
and their psychometric characteristics.
Design & Methodology: The sample of the study constituted 4-6 years of
children. In this study, the researcher developed a cognitive development
test and presented evidence of validity and reliability by pre-trial.
Findings: According to the results of the study, the descriptive statistics
obtained from the application of verbal responses and multiple choice items
were examined, the mean, standard deviations, mean difficulties and
median values were very close to the results were determined. The
correlation between the scores obtained from the two tests was positive,
moderate and meaningful. It was determined that verbal response was more
difficult for children and multiple choice was more moderate. It was
concluded that the discriminative power indices of verbal responses and the
discriminative power indices of verbal responses were higher than those of
multiple choice.
Implications and Suggestions: The correlation between the scores obtained
from the two tests was positive, moderate and meaningful. It was
determined that verbal response was more difficult for children and multiple
choice was more moderate. It was concluded that the discriminative power
indices of verbal responses and the discriminative power indices of verbal
responses were higher than those of multiple choice. The differences
between the upper and lower groups of verbal responses and multiple
choices items were examined, and both tests concluded that the scores
between the lower and upper groups were significantly different.
