Bu araştırmanın amacı, maddenin hal değiştirmesi konusunun ortaokul öğrencilerine anlatımında Sokrates Yönteminin kullanılmasının onların akademik başarılarına etkisini araştırmaktır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2015-2016 eğitim öğretim yılında, Malatya ili Arguvan ilçesindeki mevcut iki ortaokulun 5. Sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. 20'si bir okuldan ve 20'si diğer okuldan olmak üzere iki şube arasından deney ve kontrol grubu rastgele seçilmiştir. Çalışmada yarı deneysel model kullanılmıştır. Maddenin hal değiştirmesi konusu bir gruba Sokrates Yöntemi kullanılarak diğer gruba yapısalcı modelin diğer yöntemleriyle anlatılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak 25 sorudan oluşan ön test (hazır bulunuşluk testi) ve 20 sorudan oluşan son test kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi SPSS 17.0 paket programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda, maddenin hal değişimi konusunun öğretiminde deney grubuna uygulanan Sokrates Yönteminin kullanılmasının yapısalcı modelin diğer yöntemlerine göre başarıyı arttırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmış ve buna göre öneriler getirilmiştir.
The aim of that study is to research the effects of Socrates Method on their academic success when teaching the changing state of matter to the secondary school students. This study includes 5th grade students of two secondary schools in Arguvan, Malatya, in the 2015-2016 Educational Year. The experimental and control groups were randomly selected from two branches, including twenty students from one school and twenty from other school. A quasi-experimental design was used in the study. The subject of the changing state of matter was taught by using Socrates Method to one group and the other group was taught by using general method. As a data collection tool, a pre-test (readiness test) consisting of 25 questions and final test consisting of 20 questions were used. Analysis of the data was performed by using SPSS 17.0 software package. As a result of the research, when compared to the general method, the Socrates Method, tried on the experimental group, increases the success in teaching the changing state of matter and proposals have been made according to that.
