Sosyal bilgiler dersinde gazete tasarım etkinlikleriyle yapılan öğretim uygulamalarının akademik başarıya etkisi

Abstract

Sosyal Bilgiler dersi ağırlıklı olarak soyut konular barındırdığından, öğrencilerin konuları kavramakta zorluklar çektiği ve öğrenilen bilgilerin kalıcılığının oldukça kısa olduğu söylenebilir. Bu da Sosyal Bilgiler derslerinde farklı materyallerin kullanımını zorunlu kılmaktadır. Bu materyallerden biri de günlük hayatta önemli bir yere sahip olan gazetelerdir. Araştırmada Sosyal Bilgiler dersi kültür ve miras öğrenme alanında gazete tasarım etkinliklerinin akademik başarıya, bilginin kalıcılığına, öğrencilerin derse karşı tutumlarına etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın evreni Adıyaman ili, örneklemi merkez ilçede bir devlet okulunda 6. sınıfa devam eden 72 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Deney grubu öğrencilerine gazete tasarım etkinlikleri kullanılarak eğitim-öğretim durumları düzenlenmiş, kontrol grubu öğrencilerine ise mevcut öğretim programı uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada karma araştırma yöntemi kullanılmış, araştırmanın nicel boyutu ön test- son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desene göre düzenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın nicel verileri, akademik başarı testi ile öğrencilerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersine karşı tutumları ise tutum ölçeği aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın nitel boyutunda ise standartlaştırılmış açık uçlu görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Form aracılığıyla öğrencilerin bu araştırmada kullanılan öğretim uygulamaları hakkındaki görüşleri ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda gazete tasarım etkinlikleriyle yapılan eğitim-öğretim uygulamalarının öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını, öğrenilenlerin kalıcılığını ve derse karşı tutumunu artırmada etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Since the Social Studies course predominantly includes abstract topics, it can be said that students have difficulties in understanding the topics and the permanence of the learned information is shorter. This necessitates the use of different materials in Social Studies classes. One of these materials is newspapers, which have an important place in daily life. The research examines the effect of newspaper design activities in the culture and heritage learning area of the Social Studies course on academic success, the permanence of knowledge, and students' attitudes towards the course. The universe of the research is the city of Adıyaman, and the sample consists of 72 students attending the 6th grade in a state school in the central district. For the experimental group of students, teaching was organized using newspaper design activities, while for the control group of students, the existing curriculum was applied. Mixed research method was used in the research, and the quantitative dimension of the research was arranged according to the quasi-experimental design with pre-test-post-test control group. In the study, an achievement test measuring academic success, and an attitude scale measuring students' attitudes towards the Social Studies course were applied to collect data. In the qualitative dimension of the research, a standardized open-ended interview form was used. Through the form, the views of the students about the teaching practices of newspaper design activities in Social Studies education used in this research were revealed. At the end of the research, it was determined that the educational applications made with newspaper design activities were effective in increasing the academic success of the students, the permanence of the learned and their attitude towards the lesson.
