Öz (İngilizce):This study is an examination of religious music applications of the Armenian community living in Istanbul with cultural coherence. We shall first have a brief look at the historical background of Armenians and their culture, then discuss Armenian church music. As we shall see the ancient Armenian monophtong music is divided into two main branches as recitative and modal music. Recitative music, which resembles the Qur'an recitation with the proper rules and guides called in Islamic tradition "tajwîd", is the tradition of Avederans which is the Armenian Bible, being recited with its proper rules. We shall also discuss the recitation of saragans (hymns in the form of folk music) which are recited with a modal fulfilment, and compiled in a book with the title of Saragnotz. Modal fulfilment, being suitable for Christian philosophy, is performed in the church in a weekly schedule in such a manner that a different mode is used on each day. In addition to this in the 19th century under the influence of modernization movements and nationalism which affect the whole world, Armenian music also underwent some modifications. While formerly Ancient Armenian church music was performed with a monophthong male chorus which was called muganni, in later times an Armenian music with an Org, featuring Armenian identity and polyphonic music, consisting of men and women, was performed. The most important founders of this new musical performance are Armenian composers and muciologists Gomidas and Yegmalyan
