COMPARISON OF TVUS, MRI, AND FROZEN SECTION METHODS IN PREOPERATIVE DETECTION OF MYOMETRIAL INVASION IN PATIENTS WITH ENDOMETRIAL CANCER
(Sestre Milosrdnice Univ Hospital, 2021) Kural, Hasim; Yilmaz, Ercan; Melekoglu, Rauf; Akatli, Aysenur; Karaca, Leyla
We aimed to evaluate the depth of myometrial invasion preoperatively with trans vaginal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and frozen section examination techniques in patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Our study included 65 patients. Transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging were performed in study patients in the preoperative period. Frozen section examination was performed in all hysterectomy samples obtained from all study patients. Data were analyzed with SPSS Statistics 22.0 program. The sensitivity of transvaginal ultrasound in determining the depth of myometrial invasion was 88.64%, specificity 90.48%, positive predictive value 95.12%, and negative predictive value 79.17%. For magnetic resonance imaging, the sensitivity was 63.64%, specificity 95.24%, positive predictive value 96.55%, and negative predictive value 55.56%. In addition to the frozen section examination, which is the gold standard in determining the myometrial invasion depth, transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging have become commonly used methods for this purpose in recent years. Ultrasound examination performed by an experienced specialist is superior to magnetic resonance imaging as it is fast, inexpensive, and associated with higher sensitivity.

Proliferating trichilemmal cyst is slowly growing benign cutaneous adnexal tumor of the hair follicle. Proliferating trichilemmal cysts are seen usually on the scalp and in elderly women. We present pathological findings of 43 years-old female patient with scalp nodular lesion with the literature.

Small Cell Neuroendocrine Tumor of the Larynx: Two Case Reports
(Kare Publ, 2017) Temelli, Oztun; Bozdag, Nihal Kaplan; Akatli, Aysenur; Yaslikaya, Serhat; Dikilitas, Mustafa
Neuroendocrine tumors of the larynx account for<1% of all laryngeal cancers. Laryngeal small cell carcinomas of the neuroendocrine type (SCNC) account for <0.5% of all laryngeal tumors. We report two cases of 65-and 75-year old men with small cell carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx. The patients were treated with induction chemotherapy (cisplatin-etoposide) and chemoradiotherapy (cisplatin-etoposide). The first patient was alive until 26 months from diagnosis. However, multiple brain metastases developed in the second patient, and he died 16 months after diagnosis. Small cell neuroendocrine carcinomas are very aggressive neoplasms. A combination of platinum-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy is the mainstay of the treatment for SCNC, which is considered to be a systemic disease.

    Stomach metastasis of malignant melanoma
(2019) Bilgic, Yilmaz; Mehraliyev, Elkin; Akatli, Aysenur; Dikilitas, Mustafa; Cagin, Yasir Furkan; Erdogan, Mehmet Ali; Evren, Bahri; Harputluoglu, Murat Muhsin
Dear Editor, Malignant melanoma develops as a result of malignant transformation of melanocytes. Melanocytes in the body are found in the skin, mucosa, eye and nervous system. Primary skin melanomas are responsible for 1-2% of deaths in the world. Although the incidence of melanoma increases with age, it is most commonly seen between the ages of 20-45 (1). It is the 5th most common cancer in the United States. Because of its aggressive behavior and high rate of metastasis, its prognosis are poor. Life expectancy of 10 years is 75-80%. The mean survival time in distant metastasis cases is 6-9 months (2). Malignant melanomas are rare in the gastrointestinal tract, although small bowel, large bowel and anorectal metastasis are common and metastasis to the stomach is rare (3). We aimed to present gastric metastasis in a 71-year-old woman with malignant melanoma

Tuberculous Arthritis in the Elbow Joint in an Adolescent
(Aves Press Ltd, 2018) Ozturk, Mehmet; Akatli, Aysenur; Sigirci, Ahmet; Akpolat, Nusret
Musculoskeletal system tuberculosis (TB) accounts for approximately 10% of all TB cases, excluding those involving pulmonary TB. Elbow TB is extremely rare and is seen in 2%-5% of musculoskeletal system cases. The diagnosis of TB arthritis is very difficult because its onset is insidious and progress is slow and there are nonspecific local and systemic symptoms. A delay in treatment can result in irreversible osteoarticular destruction. This paper presents the clinical and radiological findings of a 12-year-old adolescent patient with elbow TB arthritis.
