Öğe THE ALBUMIN-GLOBULIN RATIO PREDICTING MORTALITY IN GASTRIC CARCINOMA(Carbone Editore, 2016) Aksoy, Asude; Durak, Serdar; Ozturk, Turkan; Avci, Nilufer; Cirak, Yalcin; Deger, Ayse Nur; Bilgic, YilmazIntroduction: The potential effects of serum albumin and albumin-globulin rate on survival were investigated in patients with gastric carcinoma. Materials and methods: The biochemical values of 204 patients under chemotherapy evaluation were obtained retrospectively from archive data. Albumin-globulin ratio values were calculated using albumin/total protein-albumin formula. The values of albumin-globulin ratio and albumin were categorized as 3 groups using receiver operating characteristic analysis and a descending order. Results: The calculated cut-off value for albumin-globulin ratio was 1.14: 34.4-79.7 by receiver operating characteristic. The median survival was 20.7 months (15.9-25.5), 20.1 months (15.1-25.1), 16 months (11.8-20.1), respectively in 1st, 2nd, 3rd groups for albumin-globulin ratio (p=0.46). The median overall survival was 18.3 months (123-24.2), 21.6 months (16.8-26.3), 18.01 months (13.5-22.4) in 1st, 2nd, 3rd groups for albumin, respectively (p=0.52). There were no statistical significant differences by Kaplan-Meier method for albumin-globulin ratio, albumin p>0.05. The effects of clinicopathological and biochemical characteristics on mortality were assessed by Cox-proportional hazard regression analysis. The independent predictors of mortality were observed high grade, the presence of perineural invasion of the tumor, high nodal involvement (p:0.01, p:0.001, p:0.01), respectively. Conclusion: Albumin-globulin ratio and albumin values alone may not be useful parameters to predict mortality and survival in patients with gastric carcinoma.Öğe Cortical and cerebellar atrophy, but no lesion in a patient with neuro-Behcet's disease(Springer Wien, 2013) Varoglu, Asuman Orhan; Aksoy, Asude; Kocaturk, Idris; Ertekin, Ayfer; Koplay, Mustafa; Odabas, Faruk Omer; Ozbek, SedaNeuro-Beh double dagger et's disease (NBD) is a rare clinical entity. There are no reports about cortical atrophy in NBD. We report a patient with NBD exhibiting only cortical and cerebellar atrophy without any lesions. A 38-year-old male was hospitalized due to gait disorder. He had experienced forgetfulness, irritability, sexual and behavioral dyscontrol, and incontinence for 5 years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed cortical and cerebellar atrophy, but there were no lesions. In the differential diagnosis of NBD, physicians should take into account the presence of both brainstem and cerebellar and cortical atrophy even in the absence of typical lesions for NBD, particularly in the presence of cognitive dysfunctions.Öğe Examination of care burden of caregivers of oncology patients and the perceived social support form family(International Journal of Caring Sciences, 2017) Çıtlık Sarıtaş, Seyhan; Kavak, Funda; Aksoy, Asude; Sarıtaş, SerdarAim: This study was conducted to examine the care burden of caregiving family members of oncology patients and the perceived social support from family. Methods: The study was conducted as a descriptive and correlational study. The population of the study consisted of caregiving family members of patients who were receiving treatment in the medical oncology clinic of a university hospital between January and July 2014. The sample of the study was determined as 150 by using the sampling method with finite population and the randomized method. The data were collected by using 'Questionnaire, 'Burden interview', and 'Perceived Social Support from Family Scale'. Results: In the study, total mean score obtained by caregiving family members were determined as 25.00±13.59 in the Burden Interview and 8.00±1.60 in the Perceived Social Support from Family Scale. The values showed that while the care burden was high; the perceived social support from family was low. There was a negative correlation between the Care Burden of caregiving family members and the Perceived Social Support from Family. It was determined that as the care burden increased, the Perceived Social Support from Family decreased. Discussion: In the study, it was found that while the care burden of the caregiving families was high, their perceived social support from family was low.Öğe Is excision repair cross-complementation Group1 expression a biological marker in nasopharynx carcinoma(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2019) Aksoy, Asude; Elkiran, Emin Tamer; Harputluoglu, Hakan; Dagli, Adile Ferda; Isikdogan, Abdurrahman; Urakci, ZuhatObjective: To determine the prognostic value of excision repairs cross-complementation group1 (ERCC1) gene in cases with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with platinum-containing chemotherapy (PCT). Subjects and Methods: The present study was included 33 cases in local advanced stage with NPC. ERCC1 expression was evaluated by using immunohistochemical staining in biopsy specimens. We evaluated the relationship between the degree of ERCC1 expression and clinicopathological features, response to therapy, survival rates in cases with NPC, retrospectively. Results: ERCC1 expression was not observed in 5 (15.15%) of all cases. Thirteen (39.9%) cases weakly positive (+1, +2) and 15 (45.5%) cases of all them were rather strongly positive (+3). There was no statistically significant difference between the degree of ERCC1 expression and clinicopathological features, response to treatment, survival rates (P 0.05) in cases with NPC. Conclusions: ERCC1 expression has no predictive value for survival in cases locally advanced stage with NPC. Evaluation of ERCC1 expression is not appropriate with a biomarker to detect cases who can benefit from PCT in NPC.Öğe IS SECOND LINE SYSTEMIC CHEMOTHERAPY BENEFICIAL IN PATIENTS WITH NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER (NSCLC)? : A MULTICENTER DATA EVALUATION OF ANATOLIAN SOCIETY OF MEDICAL ONCOLOGY (ASMO)(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2013) Odabas, Hatice; Ulas, Arife; Aydin, Kubra; Inanc, Mevlude; Aksoy, Asude; Yazilitas, Dogan; Turkeli, Mehmet[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Is second-line systemic chemotherapy beneficial in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)? A multicenter data evaluation by the Anatolian Society of Medical Oncology(Sage Publications Ltd, 2015) Odabas, Hatice; Ulas, Arife; Aydin, Kubra; Inanc, Mevlude; Aksoy, Asude; Yazilitas, Dogan; Turkeli, MehmetPatients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) generally require second-line treatment although their prognosis is poor. In this multicenter study, we aimed to detect the characteristics related to patients and disease that can predict the response to second-line treatments in advanced NSCLC. Data of 904 patients who have progressed after receiving first-line platinum-based chemotherapy in 11 centers with the diagnosis of stage IIIB and IV NSCLC and who were evaluated for second-line treatment were retrospectively analyzed. The role of different factors in determining the benefit of second-line treatment was analyzed. Median age of patients was 57 years (range 19-86). Docetaxel was the most commonly used (20.9 %, n = 189) single agent, while gemcitabine-platinum was the most commonly used (6.7 %, n = 61) combination chemotherapy regimen in second-line setting. According to survival analysis, median progression-free survival after first-line treatment (PFS2) was 3.5 months (standard error (SE) 0.2; 95 % confidence interval (CI), 3.2-3.9), median overall survival (OS) was 6.7 months (SE 0.3; 95 % CI, 6.0-7.3). In multivariate analysis, independent factors affecting PFS2 were found to be hemoglobin (Hb) level over 12 g/dl and treatment-free interval (TFI) longer than 3 months (p = 0.006 and 0.003, respectively). Similarly, in OS analysis, Hb level over 12 g/dl and time elapsed after the first-line treatment that is longer than 3 months were found to be independent prognostic factors (p = 0.0001 and 0.045, respectively). In light of these findings, determining and using the parameters for which the treatment will be beneficial prior to second-line treatment can increase success rate.Öğe The knockdown of stathmin with si-RNA inhibits invasion of mesothelioma(Churchill Livingstone, 2024) Aksoy, Asude; Varoglu, Asuman; Onalan, Ebru Etem; Tektemur, Ahmet; Artas, Gokhan; Koc, Mustafa; Cakmak, MuharremBackground To investigate the mechanism of action of stathmin1 (STMN1) in mesothelioma (MSM) and whether it has any role in its treatment. Methods STMN1 expression was examined using immunohistochemistry in biopsy tissues taken from MSM patients. The relationships between the levels of STMN1 expression in the pathology preparations of MSM patients, and the clinicopathological characteristics of these patients, and their survival times were investigated. Transfection of STMN1-specific siRNA into SPC212 cells was compared to negative control siRNAs. The mRNA levels of genes that may play a role in invasion, apoptosis, and autophagy were evaluated by RT-PCR. Results The expression of STMN1 was shown to be high in MSM tissues (p < 0.05). It was found that the only independent predictor factor affecting the survival time of MSM patients was the disease stage (p < 0.05). STMN1 was significantly reduced after siRNA intervention (81.5%). STMN1 with specific siRNA has been shown to suppress invasion by reducing the mRNA levels of cadherin-6 (CDH6), fibroblast growth factor-8 (FGF8), hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF1A), matrix metallopeptidase 1-2 (gelatinase A) (MMP1-2), and TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 2 (TIMP2), which are important markers for invasion. Although the expression of apoptosis and autophagy-related genes, caspase-2 (Casp2) and LC-3, was reduced by silencing STMN1 with specific siRNA in western blot analysis, this effect was not observed in PCR results. Conclusions Immunohistochemical analysis of STMN1 may contribute to the differential diagnosis of MSM, and STMN1 may also be considered as a potential therapeutic target in the early invasive stage of MSM therapy.Öğe Predictive and Prognostic Factors in Ovarian and Uterine Carcinosarcomas(2016) Çiçin, İrfan; Özatlı, Tahsin; Türkmen, Esma; Öztürk, Türkan; Özçelik, Melike; Çabuk, Devrim; Gökdurnalı, Ayşe; Balvan, Özlem; Yıldız, Yaşar; Şeker, Metin; Özdemir, Nuriye; Yapar, Burcu; Tanrıverdi, Özgür; Günaydın, Yusuf; Menekşe, Serkan; Öksüzoğlu, Berna; Aksoy, Asude; Hacıoğlu, M. Bekir; Erdoğan, Bülent; Arpacı, Erkan; Sevinç, AlperAbstract: Background: Prognostic factors and the standard treatment approach for gynaecological carcinosarco-mas have not yet been clearly defined. Although car-cinosarcomas are more aggressive than pure epithelial tumours, they are treated similarly. Serous/clear cell and endometrioid components may be predictive fac-tors for the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) or radiotherapy (RT) or RT in patients with uterine and ovarian carcinosarcomas. Heterologous carcino-sarcomas may benefit more from adjuvant CT.Aims: We aimed to define the prognostic and predic-tive factors associated with treatment options in ovar-ian (OCS) and uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS).Study Design: Retrospective cross-sectional studyMethods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical re-cords of patients with ovarian and uterine carcinosar-coma from 2000 to 2013, and 127 women were includ-ed in this study (24 ovarian and 103 uterine). Patients admitted to seventeen oncology centres in Turkey be-tween 2000 and December 2013 with a histologically proven diagnosis of uterine carcinosarcoma with FIGO 2009 stage I-III and patients with sufficient data ob-tained from well-kept medical records were included in this study. Stage IV tumours were excluded. The pa-tient records were retrospectively reviewed. Data from 104 patients were evaluated for this study. Results: Age (>=70 years) was a poor prognostic factor for UCS (p=0.036). Pelvic±para aortic lymph node dis-section did not affect overall survival (OS) (p=0.35). Macroscopic residual disease was related with OS (p<0.01). The median OS was significantly longer in stage I-II patients than stage III patients (p=0.03). Adjuvant treatment improved OS (p=0.013).
