Öğe Öğretmenlerin barış eğitimine ilişkin görüşleri(İnönü Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi, 2012) Apaydın, Çiğdem; Aksu, MuallaThe aim of this research was to bring out the opinions of Turkish teachers concerning peace education. The design of this study was qualitative, and descriptive analysis was used. The number of the participants was 17, 11 of whom were women while 6 were men and they were all volunteer teachers. They were either graduates of the master’s program or were continuing their studies in the field of Educational Administration and Supervision at Akdeniz University. The participants were asked to respond to six open-ended questions in semistructured interview form in writing. The data were collected via e-mail. According to the findings of the study, while some of the schools had activities on peace education, others did not. Peace education at schools has been carried out through brainstorming, case studies and activities related to national holidays with the involvement of students’ parents. According to the participants, the most important task was to train students for being sensitive on peace belongs to their teachers. According to the responding participants peace education could be defined as “to make the individuals be in tolerance and understanding to solving his/her problems” or “to behave tolerantly and respectfully to human rights in solving problems.” All participants stated that peace education could be a way of eliminating violence in schools.
