Öğe Biocompatibility of a new epoxy resin-based root canal sealer in subcutaneous tissue of rat(Dental Investigations Society, 2015) Simsek N.; Akinci L.; Gecor O.; Alan H.; Ahmetoglu F.; Taslidere E.Objective: The objective was to evaluate the subcutaneous biocompatibility of two root canal sealers. Materials and Methods: Thirty female rats were distributed into two groups of 15 animals. Each received subcutaneous dorsal implants: Silicone tubes filled with AH Plus or Obtuseal. After the 11th, 14th, and 45th days, tissues were collected for biopsy and fixed and processed for histologic evaluation. Observations of the cellular inflammatory components, such as lymphocytes and macrophages, were made. The data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Connover tests (P < 0.05). Results: By the 7th day, lymphocyte infiltration increased in both groups (P = 0.0104). However, macrophage infiltration increased only in the AH Plus group (P = 0.0011). By the 14th and 45th days, lymphocyte and macrophage infiltrations were reduced. At the end of the experimental period, no statistically significant differences were found between the AH Plus group and the Obtuseal group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: After 45 days, Obtuseal yielded a satisfactory tissue reaction; it was biocompatible when tested in subcutaneous rat tissue. On the basis of the obtained results, it was concluded that Obtuseal root canal sealer caused a satisfactory tissue reaction as AH plus, because it was biocompatible when tested in the subcutaneous tissue of rats. © 2015 Dental Investigations Society.Öğe COMBINED TREATMENT OF A LARGE AGGRESSIVE CENTRAL GIANT CELL GRANULOMA (CASE REPORT)(Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry, 2017) Koparal M.; Alan H.; Ağaçayak K.S.; Erdoğdu I.H.; Gulsun B.Central giant cell tumours are rare, accounting for less than 7% of all jaw tumours. These tumours are usuallyobserved in women, occur most often in the mandible, and are more common in the second decade of life.Treatment consists of local removal, partial resection, ortotal resection. In this case, a 32-year-old female patientpresented in our clinic with pain in the anterior mandible. No cervical lymphadenopathy was detected uponphysical examination. No ulceration was observed duringthe intraoral examination, but sensitivity was found in thevestibular area. However, no sensation loss in any teethor in the lips was detected. This case report presents a 32-year-old female patient with central giant cell tumourcausing extensive bone loss in the mandible base that wastreated with partial resection © 2017. All the materials that help to resolve the defiency which occur as a result of a factor on a living organism and turn it into a function or the ones that help to complete this deficiency in an order and quick way by the organism are called as "biomaterial". In this study, we aimed to present the information related to classification, using area and obtaining method of biomaterials.Öğe Guided bone regeneration with local zoledronic acid and titanium barrier: An experimental study(Spandidos Publications, 2016) Dundar S.; Ozgur C.; Yaman F.; Cakmak O.; Saybak A.; Ozercan I.H.; Alan H.The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects on new bone formation of autogenous blood alone or in combination with zoledronic acid (ZA), a ?-tricalcium phosphate (?-TCP) graft or ZA plus a ?-TCP graft placed under titanium barriers. For this purpose, eight adult male New Zealand white rabbits were used in the study, each with four titanium barriers fixed around four sets of nine holes drilled in the calvarial bones. The study included four groups, each containing 2 rabbits. In the autogenous blood (AB group), only autogeneous blood was placed under the titanium barriers. The three experimental groups were the AB+ZA group, with autogenous blood plus ZA, the AB+?-TCP group, with autogeneous blood plus a ?-TCP graft, and the AB+?-TCP+ZA group, with autogeneous blood plus a ?-TCP graft and ZA mixture under the titanium barriers. The animals were sacrificed after 3 months. The amounts of new bone formation identified histomorphometrically were found to be higher after 3 months than at the time of surgery in all groups. The differences between the groups were examined with histomorphometric analysis, and statistically significant differences were identified at the end of the 3 months. The bone formation rate in the AB+?-TCP+ZA group was determined to be significantly higher than that in the other groups (P<0.05). In the AB+ZA and AB+?-TCP groups, the bone formation rate was determined to be significantly higher than that in the AB group (P<0.05). No statistically significant difference in bone formation rate was observed between the AB+?-TCP and AB+ZA groups. Local ZA used with autogeneous blood and/or graft material appears to be a more effective method than the use of autogeneous blood or graft alone in bone augmentation executed with a titanium barrier. © 2016, Spandidos Publications. In this case report, therapies of caries that may occur after orthodontic treatment are discussed. Case Report: Twenty-year-old male patient admitted to our clinic because of caries around his brackets. The patient began orthodontic treatment at age 13, had been treated for 1 year and after orthodontic treatment has left voluntarily. Brackets has remained in the mouth for six years. During the clinical examination, cervical caries was seemed on maxillary incisors and canine tooth of the right mandibular; right and left mandibular first premolar teeth were lingual positioned. Extraoral examination revealed left submandibular lymphadenopathy and reduced mouth opening. Lower left second molar tooth was extracted because of its excessive damage and caused lymphadenopathy. Root canal treatment was performed to maxillary central and lateral incisors in the Endodontics clinic. After all fillings and root canal treatments was finished; the fiber bridge was applied to tooth cavity of left maxillary canine teeth by the support of palatal surface of teeth 22 and 23. Dental treatment was finished with the motivation of oral hygiene. Results: As a result of a 1-year follow-up of the patient, control of the decayed teeth were provided and oral hygiene continued. The patient does not want to see anymore of orthodontic treatment, so treatment was completed in this way.Öğe Sedation during implant surgery(University of Dicle, 2015) Koparal M.; Alan H.; Gulsun B.; Celik F.Medical dentistry treatments take the form of practical applications rather than the use of medical therapies. Performing procedures under local anaesthesia can inhibit pain in patients but does not prevent fear and the physiological reactions that occur in response to it. This may affect the success of treatment. The use of implant surgery, one of the practical applications of medical dentistry, has been increasing gradually over the last 20 years. In order to perform surgery comfortably and prevent fear in patients during the procedure, sedation is established. In this article, we present the sedative agents administered during implant surgery and their usage.Öğe Verrucous carcinoma and squamous cell papilloma of the oral cavity: Report of two cases and review of literature(Dental Investigations Society, 2015) Alan H.; Agacayak S.; Kavak G.; Ozcan A.Verrucous carcinoma (VC) of oral cavity is a rare variant of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma and squamous papilloma is a benign proliferation of the stratified squamous epithelium, which results in a papillary or verrucous exophytic mass. There is a certain clinical similarity between squamous cell papilloma and VC. We presented a report of two cases which are VC and squamous cell papilloma that are showed the same clinical appearance but different pathological appearance, with a review of the literature. © 2015 European Journal of Dentistry.
