The Effect of Sociodemographic Variables, Body Image and Self-Esteem on Undergoing Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures in Turkish Women: Cross-Sectional Research
(OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2021) Cansel N.; Güldoğan E.; Altunişik N.
Objective: Previous studies conducted in different populations have stated that demographical and psychological factors such as low self-esteem and body image are important motivations to undergo minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. This study investigates these factors that are expected to predict motivation for such procedures in Turkish women. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in August 2020 using an online survey with the virtual snowball method. The participants completed a questionnaire that investigated their sociodemographic variables, psychiatric disorder history, cosmetic procedures, motivation sources; including questions from the Rosenberg Self-Esteem and Body-Cathexis Scale. Results: The data of 1,244 women were included. 62% have had some sort of cosmetic procedure. The most commonly performed was laser procedures (79.5%). The most important source of information and motivation was doctors. There was a positive correlation among increasing age, graduating university, having a job, having a high monthly income, and the rate of cosmetic procedures. The presence of a psychiatric disease did not decrease this rate. While there was no correlation between body perception, self-esteem scores and the total rates of cosmetic procedures, the self-esteem scores of those who had botulinum toxin injection, dermal fillers, and platelet-rich plasma were higher than those who had other procedures. Conclusion: This study provides information about psychosocial factors that predict interest in minimal cosmetic procedures. Unlike previously known predictors, body image and self-esteem were not effective. The results may contribute to a better understanding of the factors that may be motivational for undergoing cosmetic procedures. © 2021 by Türkiye Klinikleri.

Hidradenitis suppurativa: A 9-year retrospective study from Malatya, Turkey
(OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2019) Altunişik N.; Şener S.
Objective: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory skin disease. Our aim of this study is to review the demographic, clinical characteristics, treatment options of the patients who were being followed up with diagnosis of HS in our hospital during the last 9 years and to make a comparison with the data from other countries. Material and Methods: A total of 59 patients with HS diagnosed in our Dermatology Department between 2010-2019 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Seventeen (28.8%) of 59 patients were female, 42 (71.2%) were male. The mean age at diagnosis was 31.05±1.61 (minimum / maximum: 14-60). Seventeen patients (28.8%) had stage 1, 26 patients (44.1%) had stage 2 and 16 patients (27.1%) had stage 3 disease. Axilla was the most affected area. Topical agents (topical clindamycin, antiseptic solutions) and oral antibiotics (doxycycline, ciprof loxacin, ampicillin-sulbactam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid) were the most commonly used treatment options. Treatment resistant eight patients were treated with a biological agent adalimumab. Conclusion: In literature, there are few epidemiological studies related to HS in Turkey. The clinical, demographic and therapeutic data of 59 HS cases in our clinic were summarized. However, we believe that multi-center studies conducted with larger number of patients are needed in order to reach more comprehensive data on this subject. Copyright © 2019 by Türkiye Klinikleri

Orf Infection with Multiple Lesions in the Burn Area
(OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2022) Arslan S.; Altunişik N.; Türkmen D.; Şener S.; Marsak M.; Sezer S.; Toprak S.
Orf, a viral zoonotic disease, is transmitted to humans from small ruminants such as sheep or goats. It usually progresses with one or more nodular lesions appearing on the dorsal surface of the fingers. Orf disease may sometimes present differently from its typical location and clinical presentation. Here, we present 2 orf cases that occurred after burns. Both patients' family members had a history of contact with sheep and goats. The diagnosis of orf was based on clinical findings, a history of animal contact, and exclusion of differential diagnoses. In both cases, the lesions healed with mild hyperpigmentation. © 2022 OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S.. All rights reserved.
