(OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2018) Türkmen D.; Altunisik N.
Objective: Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a delayed type reaction that occurs when an allergen is previously sensitized to the same substance. Allergens which may cause ACD may show geographical and social differences. This article has been prepared for the purpose of informing about the allergen profile in our region since there is no previous study on this subject in Malatya and the surrounding provinces. Material and Methods: A total of 169 patients who presented to our clinic and were diagnosed with ACD were included in the study. Thin layer-rapiduse- epicutaneus test consisting of 36 allergens was applied to all patients with standard series allergens. In the evaluation no reaction (-); mild erythema, suspected reaction (+/-); erythema, infiltration (+); erythema, infiltration, papule, vesicle (++); erythema, infiltration, bulla (+++). Patient files were retrospectively reviewed and information about the reaction detected in age, sex, occupation and skin patch test was recorded. Results: Of the 169 patients included in the study, 91 (53.8%) were female and 78 (46.2%) were male. The mean age was 38,09±15,69 years. 27,8% of the patients were housewives, 20,1% were students, 11,8% were civil servants, 8,9% were workers and 7,1% were health workers. In the 45% of patients, a positive reaction to at least one allergen was detected in the patch test. The most common five allergens; nickel sulfate (16%), potassium dichromate (8.3%), thiomersal (7.1%), gold sodium thiosulfate (GST) (7.1%) and carba mix (6.5%). The most common allergens in women were nickel sulfate and GST, whereas in men potassium dichromate and carba mix. Conclusion: This study has provided a useful information about the allergen profile in patients who underwent patch testing in Malatya. © 2018 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
