    The effect of cognitive behavioral therapy-based psychoeducation on substance abuse proclivity in adolescent smokers

    AimThe aim of this study is to determine how CBT-based psychoeducation affects substance abuse proclivity in adolescent smokers.Materials and MethodsThe study is an experimental study model with pretest-posttest control group. As a result of the power analysis carried out for the sample of the study, the sample size was calculated to be 110 adolescent smokers at a significance level of 0.05, confidence interval of 95%, an effect size of 0.7, and power of population representation of 0.95. A Descriptive Characteristics Form and SAPS were used to collect the data. The experimental group received eight sessions of cognitive-behavioral therapy-based psychoeducation. No educational program was applied to the control group. The data were analyzed using number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square, dependent samples t-test and independent samples t-test.ResultsSubstance abuse proclivity was determined in adolescents who smoked cigarettes in the experimental and control groups. The SAPS total score average of the individuals in the experimental group decreased after psychoeducation compared to before psychoeducation. The difference between the posttest SAPS total mean scores of the control and experimental groups was statistically significant.ConclusionCBT-based psychoeducation was found to be effective in reducing substance use proclivities in adolescent smokers.

    The effect of mindfulness on medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with Schizophrenia: A cross-sectional study

    Objective The aim of this study is to determine the effect of mindfulness on medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted with 147 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. Results A strong positive correlation was determined between the mindfulness level and medication adherence of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Furthermore, mindfulness of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia was statistically significant in explaining medication adherence (p < 0.05) and mindfulness predicted medication adherence by 64%. Conclusion It was observed that the individuals' mindfulness level was low and half of the participants had low medication adherence. Moreover, as their mindfulness level increased, so did their medication adherence.

    How technology addiction affects social anxiety in adolescent girls? A sample of Turkey's southeast

    The purpose of this study was to determine the how technology addiction affects social anxiety in adolescent girls. Sample of this correlational descriptive study was conducted with 635 female students determined by power analysis in five high schools located in a province. The data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents, and Technology Addiction Scale. Total mean score of the adolescent girls was found to be 50.52±20.47 for technology addiction and 41.98±13.71 for social anxiety. It was determined that technology addiction and social anxiety of the adolescent girls were moderate. There was a positive correlation between total mean score of technology addiction and total mean score of social anxiety (p=0.00, r=0.20). In the study, it can be said that as social anxiety increases, technology addiction increases, or as technology addiction increases, social anxiety also increases. It can be recommended for psychiatric nurses to provide necessary trainings to reduce technology addiction and social anxiety and to develop methods for coping with social anxiety in secondary education institutions.

    Sigara kullanan adölesanlarda bilişsel davranışsal terapi temelli psikoeğitimin madde kullanma eğilimine etkisi

    Amaç: Bu araştırma, sigara kullanan adölesanlarda bilişsel davranışçı terapi (BDT) temelli psikoeğitimin madde kullanma eğilimine etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapıldı. Materyal Metot: Araştırma ön test-son test kontrol gruplu deneysel bir çalışma modelidir. Araştırmanın örneklemi için yapılan Power analizi ile örneklem büyüklüğü 0.05 yanılgı ve 0.95 güven aralığında, 0.7 etki büyüklüğünde, 0.95 evreni temsil gücü ile 110 sigara kullanan adölesan birey (55 kontrol, 55 deney) olarak belirlendi. Verilerin toplanmasında Tanıtıcı Özellikler Formu ile Madde Kullanma Eğilimi Ölçeği (MKEÖ) kullanıldı. Deney grubuna 8 oturumluk bilişsel davranışçı terapi temelli psikoeğitim verildi. Kontrol grubuna ise herhangi bir eğitim programı uygulanmadı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde sayı, yüzdelik, ortalama, standart sapma, ki kare, bağımlı ve bağımsız gruplarda t testi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Deney ve kontrol grubundaki sigara kullanan adölesanlarda madde kullanma eğiliminin olduğu belirlendi. Deney grubundaki bireylerin eğitim öncesi MKEÖ toplam puan ortalaması 19.72±3.79 iken, eğitim sonrası 17.12±4.99' a inerek azaldığı görüldü. Son test madde kullanma eğilimi ölçeği toplam puan ortalamaları kontrol ve deney grupları arasındaki farkın istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu belirlendi (p<0.05). Sonuç: BDT temelli psikoeğitimin sigara kullanan adölesanlarda madde kullanma eğilimini azaltmada etkili olduğu bulunmuştur.
