Öğe Effects of melatonin treatment on the spermatogenesis and serum inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic rats(2018) Bozkurt, Aliseydi; Karabakan, Mehmet; Aydin, Merve; Gumustas, Sinem; Onk, Didem; Gursul, Cebrail; Erol, Huseyin SerkanAim: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known to have side effects on sexual and reproductive functions in males. The aim of current study was to investigate the effect of melatonin treatment on spermatogenesis and serum inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic rats. Material and Method: Eighteen adult Wistar albino male rats were divided randomly into three groups each containing 6 rats; control group (group 1), diabetic group (group 2), diabetic treated with melatonin group (group 3). Experimental diabetes was obtained by administrating 50 mg/kg streptozotocin. Melatonin treatment was administered intraperitoneally for 7 days at a dose of 20 mg, daily. Serum levels of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were assayed. Spermatogenesis was evaluated according to Johnsen score at immunopathological examination. Results: The Johnsen scores in control, diabetic and treatment groups were 9.78, 8.91, and 9.61, respectively. Spermatogenesis was negatively affected in diabetic rats and significantly improved with melatonin therapy (p0.05). The serum levels of TNF-α in diabetic rats were observed to be increased compared to the control group (p0.05). The levels of serum IL-1β and TNF- α were significantly decreased with melatonin treatment. IL-6 levels were not different among the three groups (p=0.248). Conclusions: In the present study, intraperitoneal melatonin treatment was determined to have a positive effect of on spermatogenesis and caused a decrease in serum inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic rats. Keywords: Cytokines; Diabetes Mellitus; Melatonin; Rats; Spermatogenesis.Öğe How to prevent unnecessary request prostate-specific antigen testing?(2019) Mertoglu, Cuma; Bozkurt, AliseydiAim: In this study, it was aimed to show how to limit the unnecessary requests of free prostate-specific antigen (fPSA) test changes with some regulations. Material and Methods: The fPSA requirements when total PSA values below 4 ng/mL or above 10 ng/mL were considered ‘unnecessary test request’. To do this, the relevant physicians were informed and the fPSA test was arranged to have a separate second window on the request panel and physicians were requested only tPSA test requests. An additional fPSA test was conducted by the laboratory staff from patients with a tPSA score of 4-10 ng / mL. Results: It was seen that 1236 fPSA and 1292 tPSA tests (fPSA/tPSA = 95.6%) were performed in our research hospital laboratory between January 17,.2017 and March 09,2017 while 328 fPSA and 1139 tPSA tests were also done between January 17, 2018 and March 09, 2018 (fPSA / tPSA = 28.7%). The ratio of sPSA test request to tPSA test request was found to be reduced by 66.9%. Conclusion: This study limited significant hospital expenditure and labor loss reducing the number of unnecessary fPSA tests with regulations made at the test prompt.Öğe The relationship between serum adropin levels and erectile dysfunction(Mre Press, 2024) Keskin, Ercument; Ekici, Ozgur; Erdogan, Abdullah; Bozkurt, Aliseydi; Sambel, Murat; Karabakan, Mehmet; Mertoglu, CumaErectile dysfunction (ED) is associated with endothelial damage, especially atherosclerosis. The search for biomarkers that can predict ED still continues. Adropin is known to affect nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability and energy homeostasis. In our study, we have aimed to investigate the relationship between serum adropin levels and ED. Male patients with and without ED between 40-60 years of age, who presented to the outpatient clinics of urology between November 2019-February 2020, were prospectively included in the study. Biochemical values measured at the time of admission to the outpatient clinic. According to the International Index of Erectile Function -5 (IIEF-5) scores which range between 5 and 25 points, patients with a score <= 21 were considered to have ED. The patients were divided into two groups: as ED and non -ED control groups. Laboratory values obtained at admission to outpatient clinics of urology were compared between groups. Patients with (n: 40), and without (n: 40) ED were included in the study. The mean age (50.2 +/- 5.7 years), average body mass index (BMI) (29.7 +/- 2.5 kg/m(2)), IIEF score (15.8 +/- 6 pts), serum adropin (584.8 +/- 172 pg/mL), and total testosterone (396.4 +/- 91.7 ng/dL) levels were recorded. Serum adropin and testosterone levels were statistically significantly higher in the non -ED group than in the ED group (712.3 +/- 222 pg/mL vs. 511.1 +/- 145 pg/mL, p < 0.001 and 420.5 +/- 56 ng/dL vs. 374.3 +/- 98 ng/dL, respectively p = 0.032). Whereas fasting blood glucose (FBG) values were found to be statistically significantly higher in the ED group (100.2 +/- 14 mg/dL vs. 143.8 +/- 78 mg/dL, p = 0.001). According to the results of our study, serum levels of adropin which improves endothelial functions were comparatively lower in ED patients, as expected.Öğe Yanlış Cerrahi Uygulama Nedeniyle Malleable Penil Protezin Kırılması: Olgu Sunumu(İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dergisi, 2013) Oğuz, Fatih; Soylu, Ahmet; Altıntaş, Ramazan; Beytur, Ali; Bozkurt, AliseydiMalleable penil protezin mekanik olarak kırılması çok nadir görülen ve beklenmedik bir komplikasyondur. Burada 2004 yılından beri komplikasyonsuz AMS 650 malleable penil protez kullanan 29 yaşında bir erkek hasta sunuldu. Hasta penis sağ yan kısımda deformite, cinsel ilişkide ağrı ve güçlük sikayeti ile başvurdu. Fizik muayenede penil protezin sağ kolunun kırık olduğu tespit edildi. Penil protez cerrahi işlemle çıkarıldı. Penil protezin sağ kolunun ön-arka düzlemde yanlış yerleştirilmiş olduğu fark edildi. Hastaya yeni AMS 650 malleable penil protez takıldı. Çıkarılan protez gereğinden daha kısa olduğu için yeni takılan protez 3 cm daha uzundu. Hastada hiçbir komplikasyon olmaksızın ameliyat sonrası gün taburcu edildi.Öğe Yanlış cerrahi uygulama nedeniyle malleable penil protezin kırılması: olgu sunumu(İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dergisi, 2013) Oğuz, Fatih; Soylu, Ahmet; Altıntaş, Ramazan; Beytur, Ali; Bozkurt, AliseydiMechanical fracture is an unusual complication of malleable penile prosthesis. In the present case, we reported that a 29-year-old man, using the AMS 650 malleable penile prosthesis since 2004, was presented. The patient described that there was deformity at the right side of the penis. Pain and difficulty during sexual intercourse was described. Right root of the penile prosthesis was found to be fractured in the physical examination and then it was removed by surgical exploration. It was determined that the right root of the penile prosthesis was misplaced on front-backward plane. A new AMS 650 malleable penile prosthesis was implanted. Because of previous prosthesis was shorter than needed, a new prosthesis was used 3 cm longer than the previous. The patient was discharged a day after the operation without any complication.
