Öğe The role of basic psychological needs satisfaction and subjective well-being in the relationship between identification with all humanity and physical health problems: A serial mediation model(Sage Publications Ltd, 2025) Cagis, Zafer Guney; Korkmaz, Habibe Tugba ErolThe present study sought to explore the mediating effects of basic psychological needs satisfaction (BPNS) and subjective well-being (SWB) on the link between identification with all humanity (IWAH) and physical health problem (PHP). The sample consisted of 552 young and middle-aged Turkish adults (Mage = 29.53 +/- 8.67; 60.0% women, 40.0% men). The findings indicated that BPNS has a statistically significant mediating role in the relationship between IWAH and PHP, whereas SWB did not have a mediating role in this relationship. However, the findings revealed that BPNS and SWB have a serial mediating role in the relationship between IWAH and PHP, even while controlling for gender, age, and socioeconomic status. The results improve our understanding of how social identity may be related to physical health, and fill a gap in the existing literature on IWAH. Thus, the current study has implications for future research and practice by drawing attention to IWAH.Öğe The role of identification with all humanity in the relationship between social dominance orientation and intergroup anxiety(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2025) Cagis, Zafer Guney; Aksoy, Seyhmus; Alkhulayfi, Abdulmohsen Mohammed Abdullah; Aziz, Izaddin Ahmad; Gomez-Salgado, Juan; Yildirim, MuratPurposeThis study aims to investigate how identifying with all humanity (IWAH), a feeling of connection and compassion towards all people, impacts intergroup relations. Specifically, it examines whether IWAH mediates the link between social dominance orientation (SDO) and intergroup anxiety.Design/methodology/approachThe sample included 304 adults from T & uuml;rkiye (61.2% male; age range: 18-64, M = 29.83, SD = 8.38), who completed an online survey including the SDO, intergroup anxiety and the IWAH scale.FindingsResults showed that higher SDO was linked to lower IWAH and greater intergroup anxiety. In contrast, higher IWAH was associated with reduced intergroup anxiety. Mediation analysis confirmed that IWAH significantly mediated the relationship between SDO and intergroup anxiety.Originality/valueThese findings suggest that fostering a broader human identity may buffer the negative effects of social dominance on intergroup relations. This study contributes to research highlighting IWAH as a potential pathway to reducing intergroup tensions and promoting global solidarity.
