    Foreign Body in the Urethra
(Turgut Özal Tıp Merkezi Dergisi, 2016) Akbulut, Mehmet Levent; Altıntas, Ramazan; Camtosun, Ahmet; Çelik, Hüseyin; Taşdemir, Cemal
Abstract Inserting foreign bodies into the male and female urethra, which occurs mostly due to psychiatric and urethral problems, is a rare condition. These patients can present with obstruction of the urethra due to these foreign bodies. These foreign bodies can reach into the bladder in women due to female urethra’s short structure; observing foreign bodies in the urethra in men is therefore more uncommon. While self-insertion of foreign bodies into the urethra in men is usually due to erotic stimulation, we present the case of an elderly male patient who had inserted a foreign object into the bladder to fix urine flow. In this study, we present the diagnosis and treatment of a 62-year-old male patient, who previosly had diffuculties in micturation and was admitted to the emergency room with acute urinary retention due to a foreign body detected in the urethra during evoluation. Keywords: Urethra; Urinary Retantion; Foreign Body.

Neonatal testicular torsion suggesting diagnosis of testicular tumour in a newborn infant
(Turgut Özal Tıp Merkezi Dergisi, 2016) Çelik, Hüseyin; Camtosun, Ahmet; Altıntaş, Ramazan; Taşdemir, Cemal
Abstract Scrotal swelling in infants is a nonspecific sign of a wide range of pathologies, from benign diseases to malignancies and acute surgical emergencies such as testicular torsion and tumors. We present here a case with testicular mass shown in ultrasonography examination and high level of AFP were found shortly after birth in another hospital and was referred to our clinic as a case with the suspicion of testicular tumor. Within 4 hours, the infant underwent scrotal exploration. Delayed testis torsion was detected and orchiectomy was performed. Histopathology of the specimen revealed hemorrhagic infarction and necrosis. Scrotal USG can nearly always be used to confirm a testicular mass, whereas a differentiation between torsion and tumor can more accurately be done by Colour Doppler USG. An emergency exploration must be performed in the treatment of both diseases. Keywords: Newborn; Testis; Torsion; Testis Tumor.

Renal trauma management and current approaches
(Turgut Özal Tıp Merkezi Dergisi, 2016) Çelik, Hüseyin; Camtosun, Ahmet; Ediz, Caner; Gürbüz, Şükrü; Altıntaş, Ramazan
Abstract Urinary tract injuries happen in approximately 8-10% of all abdominal trauma patients. Kidney is the most frequently injured organ in the urinary tract with penetrating or blunt trauma, and, if not suitable care is carried out, it may lead to morbidity and mortality. The most important laboratory tests are urinalysis, haematocrit and creatinine for evaluating renal trauma. Hematuria is often seen as microscopic or gross, but it is not enough to differentiate the condition between minor and major injuries. The management of kidney trauma has always been and will always be controversial. Conservative (follow-up) and aggressive (surgical) approach both have their proponents. The conservative management of blunt kidney trauma was first suggested in the first half of the 1900s. Since then, it has been reported that the utilities of this approach have become gradually decreased in terms of rate of nephrectomy, complications, and hospital stay. This approach has gained popularity in penetrating kidney trauma cases especially after the 1980s. Nowadays, conservative management is usually favoured, even in the case of grade IV / V traumas. In addition to this, while many studies have shown the conservative approach to be successful, surgical treatment is used only in appropriate cases in grade V injuries. In this survey, relevant articles and guidelines published between 2000 and 2014 have been reviewed, retrospectively. We aim to review the literature and suggest advices regarding conservative and surgical management of renal trauma. Keywords: Kidney Injury; Renal Trauma; Management; Renal Surgery.
