Öğe Comparison of peripheral intravenous catheterization applied to different anatomical sites in terms of pain, phlebitis and infiltration(Bmc, 2025) Kaplan, Feride; Celik, Hanife; Aslan, Hakime; Aktura, Seher CevikAim This study was conducted to compare peripheral intravenous catheterization (PIVC) at different anatomical sites in terms of pain, phlebitis and infiltration. Material and methods The study was a comparative-descriptive study. The population of the study consisted of all adult patients being treated and receiving intravenous drug therapy in a state hospital. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 154 patients who met the inclusion criteria for the study and were selected by non-probability sampling method. The Patient Information Form created by the researchers, Phlebitis and Infiltration Scale and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to collect data. Results In the study, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the degree of phlebitis, time of phlebitis and degree of infiltration between the PIVC applied upper hand, forearm and antecubital regions (p > 0.05), but there was a significant difference between the regions in terms of pain (p < 0.05). It was determined that the severity of pain upper hand was significantly higher than the other groups. Conclusion PIVC's applied at different anatomical sites were similar in terms of the risk of phlebitis and infiltration, but pain intensity was much higher upper hand. It has been determined that various factors related to the patient, nurse and other variables affecting the level of phlebitis, infiltration and pain are effective.Öğe Fear of Death and Sleep Quality in the Aftermath of an Earthquake(Slack Inc, 2025) Aktura, Seher Cevik; Celik, Hanife; Saritas, Seyhan Citlik; Ozden, GurkanPURPOSE: To examine fear of death and disruption in sleep patterns in individuals who have experienced an earthquake. METHOD: A descriptive and relationship-oriented study was performed with 322 individuals who experienced the February 6, 2023, earthquake in Turkey. Data were collected between February 20 and May 15, 2023. A personal information form, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Death Anxiety Scale (DAS) were used for data collection. RESULTS: Participants'mean DAS score was 7.96 (SD = 1.05), and mean PSQI score was 8.74 (SD = 4.06). Statistically significant relationships were found between sex, marital status, and mean DAS score, and these variables accounted for 11.7% of the total variance. Similarly, statistically significant relationships were found among economic status, relationship to person trapped under the rubble, financial loss from the earthquake, and mean PSQI score, accounting for 11.3% of the total variance. Women and married people had greater fear of death, and those with good economic status, whose family members were buried under rubble, and who experienced financial loss as a result of the earthquake had lower sleep quality. CONCLUSION:The earthquake led to moderate fear of death and poor sleep quality among participants. Findings highlight the need for targeted support for vulnerable groups following disasters. The intense stress and anxiety experienced by students in this process negatively affect the learning processes and increase the likelihood of making mistakes. Non-pharmacological techniques have been widely used in recent years in the management of this stress. Laughter yoga is one of the new methods that are starting to be used to reduce stress and anxiety levels. Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the effect of laughter yoga on perceived stress and anxiety levels in nursing students. Methods: The research is a randomized controlled trial with pre-test-post-test control group. This study was conducted in January-June 2022 at the Faculty of Nursing of a university in eastern T & uuml;rkiye. The population of the study consisted of all students studying in the first year of the nursing faculty. The sample consisted of 103 students determined by simple random sampling method. Students were assigned to the experimental and control groups by simple randomization method. Students in the experimental group were given laughter yoga for 2 sessions per week (every 3 days, eight sessions in total), and the control group did not have any intervention. We used the Perceived Stress Scale for Nursing Students and Condition Anxiety Scale. Statistical analysis of the data of the research was performed using the IBM SPSS 22 package program. Statistical methods used to evaluate data: t-test in independent groups was used to compare the mean scores of the experimental and control groups, and paired sample t-test was used for intra-group comparisons. Results: After the laughter yoga intervention, the post-test measurements of the intervention group and the control group showed a significant difference, and there was a significant decrease in perceived stress (p<0.001) and anxiety scores (p<0.001) before and after the laughter yoga intervention compared to the control group. Conclusions: Laughter yoga was found to be effective in reducing the levels of perceived stress and anxiety students perceived. Therefore, laughter yoga can be used as one of the effective strategies in reducing students' nursing education stresses.Öğe The relationship between cancer patients' spiritual needs, quality of life and depression levels: A correlational study(Cambridge Univ Press, 2025) Aslan, Hakime; Celik, Hanife; Erci, BehiceObjectives. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between cancer patients' spiritual needs and their quality of life and depression levels. Methods. This cross-sectional, exploratory study was conducted between March 2023 and November 2024. The study population consisted of cancer patients hospitalized in medical oncology departments at a university hospital in eastern Turkey. The sample consisted of 250 patients, determined by power analysis. To collect data, the Demographic Information Form, Spiritual Needs Assessment Scale, EORTC QLQ-C30 Version 3.0 Quality of Life Scale, and Beck Depression Scale were used to evaluate the patients' sociodemographic characteristics and disease process. Results. There was a weak, negative, statistically significant relationship between patients' spiritual needs and the subdimensions of the quality of life scale, specifically the general perceived health status (r = -0.297, p < 0.001), physical (r = -0.446, p < 0.001), role (r = -0.423, p < 0.001), emotional (r = -0.472, p < 0.001), cognitive (r = -0.458, p < 0.001) and social (r = -0.443, p < 0.001) functions, and finally, a weak positive correlation was found between the symptoms experienced (r = 0.376, p < 0.001) and depression levels. Additionally, a weak positive correlation between spiritual needs and depression level (r = 0.374, p < 0.001) was identified. Functional areas, depression, education level, diagnosis duration, and symptoms were identified as variables predicting spiritual needs. Significance of results. In conclusion, it was determined that as the spiritual needs of cancer patients increased, their quality of life decreased and the severity of depression increased.Öğe The Relationship Between Palliative Care Nurses' Frequency of Providing Spiritual Care and Their Job Satisfaction: A Cross-Sectional Study(Sage Publications Inc, 2025) Aslan, Hakime; Celik, Hanife; Kaplan, FerideObjective This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between the frequency of spiritual care and job satisfaction of palliative care nurses. Methods This study was a cross-sectional type. The study population consisted of nurses working in palliative care units of three hospitals in eastern Turkey. The study was conducted with 110 nurses who agreed to participate in the study. The researchers' Information Form, Nurse Spiritual Care Therapeutics Scale and Nurse Job Satisfaction Scale were used to collect data. Data was collected by face-to-face interview method between August and September 2022.Results It was determined that the nurses scored 45.2 +/- 15.8 points from the Nurse Spiritual Care Therapeutics Scale and 4.1 +/- 0.7 points from the nurse job satisfaction scale. There was a positive and moderately significant relationship between the frequency of spiritual care giving and job satisfaction of nurses. The frequency of giving spiritual care positively affected job satisfaction (beta = .409) and predicted it by 19% (Adjusted R2 = .195). It was determined that satisfaction with the unit (palliative care) mediated the relationship between the frequency of spiritual care and job satisfaction. Conclusion Palliative care nurses' frequency of providing spiritual care was moderate and their job satisfaction was high, with frequency of providing spiritual care having a positive effect on job satisfaction. This suggests that increasing opportunities for nurses to provide spiritual care may further enhance their job satisfaction, leading to improved overall well-being.
