Öğe Current Approaches of Ecological Sustainability in Urban Planning(Peter Lang Publishing Group, 2023) Görmüş S.; Cengiz S.; Oktay E.The most important way to deal with urgent problems in the history of world is to pay attention to the dialogue with our past. The fact that the local government is effective in the city administration, which came to the agenda with the COVID- 19 process, shows that the planning approaches should be specific to the city. Because every city is affected by this process in different ways due to its own dynamics. Therefore, the protection of local knowledge and the development of planning and design decisions based on local knowledge is highly valuable. In this respect, it should be remembered that the international environmental law documents developed as a result of environmental crises and the urban planning approaches created within the scope of these documents provide important knowledge and experience in dealing with global problems. This study examines the perspectives and approaches of urban planning theory and practices related to nature- culture harmonization, which have come to the fore intensively with the COVID- 19 process. Perspective is the way you always observe and understand something from one angle. The information produced in this direction is contextual. In other words, knowledge does not develop independently of the fact, and the opinion of the individual. Approaches defining the theoretical and conceptual background of anthropocentric perspective and ecocentric perspective, which determines the human- nature relationship in landscape architecture have existed as a result of local, regional and global phenomena and since the establishment of the profession; but their conceptualizations have taken place in recent years. Although it is too early to predict how the pandemic process will create a change in the planning and design knowledge (episteme) in the field of landscape architecture, it is obvious that the professional discipline has to use the knowledge of the past more effectively in both planning and design, and it has to improve its relationship with the field of landscape ecology and social sciences. It is possible that sustainability rhetoric is used extensively in developing the relationship in between Landscape Architecture and other fields. However, Landscape Architecture has the power to overcome the sustainability rhetoric with ecological design approaches such as sustainable infrastructure, green infrastructure and ecosystem services, and to integrate the ecosystem into daily life and to ensure harmony with nature. © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.Öğe Mapping Nature Based Recreation Opportunities to Develop Tourism in Rural Regions(Peter Lang Publishing Group, 2023) Yilmaz B.; Cengiz S.; Görmüş S.Since the demand for recreation in urban areas is not met, the demand for outdoor recreation in rural areas is increasing. Rural towns, in particular, consider open space recreation demands as an opportunity to realize their desire to integrate into the tourism sector. However, the inability to plan the increasing demand for recreation puts pressure on rural areas. Local governments are trying to be included in the Cittaslow movement in order to integrate into the tourism sector with their rural qualities. Cittaslow approach, which focuses on preserving the original rural characteristics of the settlements directing the recreational potential in the surrounding areas can be considered as an opportunity for this approach to succeed. In order for the landscape planning strategies that local governments will develop in directing the recreational potential to be reliable, they should follow scientific geographical techniques. This study focuses on the importance of expanding the nature- based recreation opportunities of the towns included in the Cittaslow network, assuming that the regulation of the recreation potential that will provide the Cittaslow principles by the local governments will be the most important factor in the preservation of the rural quality. Based on the assumption that quality of life, tourism policy, awareness and social cohesion, which are among the Cittaslow criteria, should be considered not only in terms of city centers but also for its rural areas, it is aimed to determine the nature- based recreation mapping possibilities in Turkey / Malatya / Arapgir district. The study analyzes how local recreation planning can be supported by geographic techniques. Data and methodologies that can be employed in nature- based recreation planning have been determined based on the field study conducted in Arapgir district. Based on data and techniques, recreational potential and nature- culture recreation corridor were determined. The study presents a simple analysis and evaluation technique to effectively manage the recreational potential in local planning. © 2023 Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften.Öğe Modelling the interaction between urban sprawl and agricultural landscape around denizli city, turkey(VDE VERLAG GMBH, 2017) Cengiz S.; Görmüş S.; Tagil Ş.Urban sprawl is not merely a geographical expansion but also brings about a set of social and spatial changes such as the loss of human nature in urban life, the distortion of natural agricultural and archaeological landscapes and the transformation of natural landscapes into cultural landscapes. It is an obvious and crystal-clear fact that such changes are hard to control in developing countries. This study mainly aims at understanding the local scale variables leading the urban growth in Denizli, a city having a trend of fast settlement and urbanization, and analyzing how these variables would affect the way of urban growth in future. In this study, the spatial/positional variables on a local scale and the growth forms belonging to the years of 1987, 2001, 2013 and 2015 were correlated by using the Logistic Regression Analysis, and the urban growth in Denizli in 2025 was simulated. In the study, two models were created as the control model and estimation model in order to reach the simulation of 2025. In the control model, the urban growth belonging to 2015 was estimated by correlating the urban growth of 1987 and 2001 and an 80 % accuracy was attained for overlapping the outcomes of control model and the real-time urban growth in 2015. The valid accuracy rate in the control model was simulated via the estimation model (model 2) belonging to 2025. The primary aim should be taking control of construction and the city should be accordingly established upon a new model. In this regard, when analyzing the city models, it is thought that the model of a compact city is a sustainable model for Denizli. © Wichmann Verlag, V.
