Öğe Factors associated with overweight and obesity in students of 5–14 age group in Mersin(Galenos Publishing House, 2020) Deniz S.; Şirin H.; Kıvrak M.; Kaplan Z.; Ketrez G.; Üner S.Aims: Obesity is a health problem caused by excessive fat deposition in the body, which spreads rapidly, threatening the age group of children as well as adults. When it occurs in childhood, it probably continues in adulthood. This study aims to determine the factors related to overweight and obesity in primary and secondary school children in Mersin. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with the children aged between five and 14 years in primary and secondary schools in Mersin, following the school health activities done by Mersin Public Health Directorate. Minimum sample size was calculated as 1.735 and questionnaires were sent to 2.000 people considering the variables of the class and school location. The independent variables of the study were sociodemographic characteristics, feeding habits, time allocated for physical and other activities, children’s body mass index (BMI) categories according to the parents’ declarations and parents’ BMI categories according to their declarations. And, the dependent variable was the children’s BMI values calculated by our measurements. The data of 1.980 students were analyzed. Results: The mean age of the study group was 9.28±2.53 (minimum-maximum: 5–14) years, and 50.9% of them were male. It was found that 14.6% of the group were obese and 21.5% were overweight. While 38.3% of boys were in the overweight or obese category, this rate was 33.8% for girls (p>0.05). The prevalence of overweight or obesity was significantly higher in secondary school students than in primary school students (p<0.05). Conclusions: The factors affecting childhood obesity identified in the studies conducted in Turkey have also become apparent in the current research we did on the school children aged 5-14 years in Mersin. © 2020. by the University of Health Sciences Turkey, Gülhane Faculty of Medicine / Gülhane Medical Journal published by Galenos Publishing House.Öğe Investigation of drinking water consumption behavior of individuals over 15 years old living in Akçadağ district of Malatya(Refik Saydam National Public Health Agency (RSNPHA), 2020) Özyazgan-Tokay A.A.; Deniz S.; Pehlivan E.Objective: In this study, it is aimed to examine the water used by individuals, water consumption, water consumption behaviors and the factors affecting them in Akçadağ district of Malatya province. Methods: In August, a 4-part questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic and drinking water information form, water and fluid consumption frequency form and a questionnaire containing water consumption scale of behavior was applied to 303 individuals over 15 years of old who applied to family health centers in Akçadağ district. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 statistical software. Mann Whitney-U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for the analysis of the data. In all evaluation, the p-value of less than 0.05 considered significant. Results: 49.8% of the participants were male and 64.4% were married. The median daily water consumption of the individuals was 2000 mL (320 mL-1000 mL) and the median daily liquid consumption was 3300 mL (718 mL-17001 mL). There was no significant difference between age groups, marital status and education level and daily water, other fluid and total fluid consumption of participants. 48.8% of individuals stated that they save water and the most important reason for this is the high water bill. Water consumption behaviors of individuals are moderate. In our study, there was no significant difference between gender, place of residence and number of family members and total scale score and subscale scores. Total scale score and subscale scores of the married individuals and those who stated that they did any work at home to reduce the use of water were significantly higher than the single individuals. Water and fluid consumption of individuals are at good levels. Conclusion: When the most important factors in saving water are examined, the high water bills were noteworthy. In order to ensure correct water consumption, the society should be informed, the necessary sensitivity should be performed to behavioral change and measures should be taken. © 2020. It usually occurs in women older than 50 years of age and it may cause diagnostic problems. A unique case of metaplastic carcinoma of the mammary including a high grade comedocarcinoma, undifferentiated sarcoma, and focal osteosarcoma components in a 44-year-old woman with Paget's disease of the nipple is presented.Öğe Resective surgical approach to cases with hilar cholangiocarcinoma (results of 8 cases)(Turkish Surgical Society, 2003) Sö?ütlü G.; Cinpolat Ö.; Ara C.; Yilmaz S.; Kirimlio?lu V.; Canpolat M.; Deniz S.We aim to present the results of 8 patients with Klatskin tumor between January 1999-June 2001. Tumor resection was performed in 8 patients; 4 male and 4 female. Preoperative biliary drainage was performed in 6 patients. Palliative resection was done in 4 patients and curative resection in 4 patients. Right hemihepatectomy was done in 1 patient; in curative resection group. Local tumor resection was performed in 3 patients. 1 patient died in early postoperative period (12.5%). 1 year survival and 2 year survival rates are 75% and 50% in curative resection, 75% and 0% in palliative resection group respectively. Klatskin tumor has poor prognosis. Extensive locoregional tumor or metastatic involvement of liver tissue require major or limited liver resection on many occasion. Relief of symptoms such as obstructive jaundice and cholangitis could be achieved by surgical palliation when curative resection is impossible. Surgical palliation can also improve survival by relief of symptoms.
