It was aimed to reveal the effects of self-disclosure behaviors of leader models on the counseling process and participants based on the views of the people attending the sessions. To this end, psychological counseling sessions were held for 12 weeks with two separate groups each including ten members. One of the groups was led by a group leader who discloses him/herself, while the other was led by a not self-disclosing leader. At the end of the sessions members were asked two open-ended questions about the leader model of their counseling. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The results revealed that that for the leader to disclose himself had positive therapeutic effects on the group including modeling, encouraging, trust in group, and creating attachment, interaction and solidarity feelings. Mother-in-law influence is one of the main reasons for divorce in Turkey. This study aimed to examine married women's perceptions of mother-in-law roles in family systems using a phenomenological research method. All participants were married women (n = 16) living in Turkey, with at least one child, and whose mother-in-law was alive. As a result of the interviews, three main themes were identified. Mothers-in-law were involved in their children's family system due to reasons such as economic conditions, children getting married at a young age, the daughter-in-law having to work outside the home, pregnancy and childbirth, and unfavorable relations between the origin of families and the spouses. In the system they were involved in, they sometimes assumed roles supporting the functioning of the system, but some other times causing destructive-inhibitive consequences. It was noteworthy that supportive mother-in-law roles were more common than destructive/inhibitive roles. It was realized that destructive/inhibitive mother-in-law roles may have negative effects on the family system, especially on children's mental health. All these results opened the door for supportive studies that will maximize the positive effects and minimize the negative effects on families, taking into account the conditions in which the mother-in-law is involved in the family system.Öğe The Relationship Between Male Role Norms and Psychological Help Seeking Barriers(Dergipark Akad, 2024) Gultekin, Ibrahim; Durmus, EmineThis research aims to investigate the relationship between male role norms and psychological help seeking barriers. In this quantitative research, correlational design was adopted. The participants of the study consisted of university students and graduates between the ages of 18-30. A total of 870 young adults, 505 (58%) females and 365 (42%) males, were selected via convenient sampling method. The data were collected through the Male Role Norms Scale, The Barriers to Seeking Psychological Help Scale and a personal information form. The results show that males adopt more traditional male role norms than females. At the same time, males fear being stigmatized by society more than females, and perceive themselves as devalued more in case of receiving psychological help. Also, they have less knowledge about the processes of receiving psychological help compared to females. Regardless of gender, when it comes to previous help seeking experiences, it was seen that the ones who had never received psychological help had more barriers to seek psychological help, and adopted more traditional male role norms. The results show that male role norms are associated with barriers to seeking psychological help. The strongest predictors of this association are the norms of anti -femininity that reflect the idea that a man should avoid anything reminiscent of femininity and the norms of toughness that reflect the idea that a man should always be tough/strong.
