    Journey From Garbage to Arts: The Impacts of Environmental Pollution on Living Things Are Illuminated with Eco-Art Practices

    Any damage to the planet has an irreversible impact on all humans and all life forms. This study explores the irreversible effects of environmental pollution on living organisms through an eco-art project involving undergraduate students. Using an art-based research approach, students created eco-artworks to highlight environmental issues and share their insights. Key findings reveal the effects of pollution on human health, biodiversity loss, and the habitats of land and marine species.

    Social Studies and Love of Art: Students and Teachers Enlighten the Connections

    Art and artistic activities that play a significant role in the lives of both children and adults are an important requirement for all individuals. Cultures develop, expand, and enrich through artistic activities, which are important for the development of visual literacy, especially in social studies. The present study aims to determine the reflection of various artistic branches in the social studies course and the student interest and love that art is considered to evoke in the context of the social studies course. In the study, qualitative research methods and techniques were used to review relevant documents and determine participant views about the role of art in social studies. First, the current Turkish social studies curricula and textbooks were analyzed. Then, an interview form developed by the authors was applied to 80 students attending all grades in a public middle school and 3 teachers employed in these schools in one of the major cities in Turkey. The attributes employed by the teachers and students in the interview form were analyzed with thematic and content analysis. The study findings demonstrated that the curricula and textbook achievements that allow activities in several art branches are limited. However, despite the limitations, the study findings demonstrated that the students were interested in different art branches and evidenced the support of social studies in the development of interest and love for certain learning areas. © 2024, Asya Publishing and Consultancy.     Social Studies Instruction With Educational Music: Write, Compose, and Apply

    The present study aimed to assist pre-service social studies teachers in the production of song lyrics adequate for the curriculum, composition of songs that would be of interest for secondary school students to construct functional educational music in social studies courses and determine the impact of this music on academic achievements and learning processes of the students. In the present study, exploratory sequential design, a mixed research method, was employed. In the first stage, song lyrics were written by 55 pre-service teachers attending the education department in a public university in Malatya province, Turkey, and songs were composed with these lyrics by a music teacher, and two music department students. The second stage (application phase) was conducted with 48 secondary school students. In the final stage, the views on the use of educational songs in the classroom were obtained. The study data were analyzed with quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. The study findings demonstrated that the songs created by pre-service teachers improved the achievements of secondary school students in the social studies course, supported learning by fun, provided better comprehension of the course topics, and were effective in maintaining the student motivation and attention.

    THE PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE CONTEXT OF TOURISM: THE ROLE OF SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION IN TÜRKIYE

    T & uuml;rkiye is a region that bears the traces of many different civilizations from the past to the present. This diversity has endowed the country's culture with a deep and rich dimension. This study examines the role of social studies education in the preservation of cultural heritage in Turkey and its relationship with tourism. The aim of the research is to reveal the potential contributions of social studies education to the sustainability of cultural heritage and the development of tourism by evaluating its impact on students. Conducted within the framework of a qualitative research design, the study involved a comprehensive literature review and an analysis of the 2005 and 2018 social studies curricula for grades 4, 5, 6, and 7. The findings indicate that social studies education provides students with significant awareness regarding the preservation of cultural heritage in Turkey and its integration with tourism. Furthermore, this research emphasizes the educational role of social studies education in the context ofpreserving cultural heritage and the sustainability of tourism. These findings may contribute to shaping educational policies in Turkey and other countries in this direction.
