Öğe Comparing 2% lidocaine gel (Dispogel and Cathejell) in cystoscopy(Sage Publications Ltd, 2019) Ucar, Muharrem; Oguz, Fatih; Gecit, Ilhan; Aydogan, Mustafa SaidObjective Cystoscopy is a common urologic procedure. Analgesics are often used to reduce any pain associated with this procedure. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy in reducing pain and the cost-effectiveness of two forms of lidocaine gel in patients undergoing cystoscopy. Methods In this double-blind, randomized clinical trial, 77 male patients who were referred for double J removal, urethral dilatation, or cystoscopy were enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups: Dispogel and Cathejell. All patients received 20 mL of intraurethral lidocaine gel 2% and cystoscopy was performed 5 minutes thereafter. The primary outcome was the pain score (visual analogue scale, VAS) during and 5 minutes after cystoscopy. Results There were no statistically significant differences between the VAS scores, blood pressure, and pulse rate in the groups in either observation period. No patient required additional anesthetic agents or sedatives for insufficient pain relief. Conclusion The results of this study show that the analgesic efficacy of Dispogel and Cathejell in the treatment of pain during and after elective cystoscopy was the same, but Dispogel was more cost-effective.Öğe Efficacy and safety of Hyadex for treatment of vesicoureteral reflux: a multicenter experience(Sage Publications Ltd, 2023) Oguz, Fatih; Yildiz, Turan; Gecit, Ilhan; Gungor, Hasan; Ciftci, Halil; Aksoy, Yilmaz; Yagmur, IsmailObjectiveThis study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dextranomer/cross-linked hyaluronic acid (Hyadex) in patients with a clinical diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR).MethodsIn this cross-sectional multicenter observational study, Hyadex was used in four different centers for the endoscopic treatment of VUR from 2020 to 2022. The study involved 74 patients (93 renal units) who were diagnosed with VUR according to voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) findings and were considered suitable for subureteric endoscopic treatment. The follow-up time (control VCUG time) was 3 months.ResultsIn the VCUG evaluation, grade I VUR was found in 13 renal units, grade II in 23 renal units, grade III in 42 renal units, and grade IV in 12 renal units. The success rates of Hyadex treatment according to the degree of VUR were as follows: 84.6% for grade I, 82.6% for grade II, 71.4% for grade III, and 66.0% for grade IV. No major complications were observed.ConclusionEndoscopic subureteric Hyadex injection had high success rates in appropriately selected patients with VUR and may be used as the first-line treatment for children with VUR.Öğe Intracavitary lesion caused by bladder wall stone and mimicking bladder tumor(2019) Topcu; Ibrahim; Oguz, Fatih; Gecit, Ilhan; Akatli, Ayse Nur; Sancaktar, FatihWe present a 28 year-old patient with insidental intramural stone covered by bladder mass. The pathology was rarely seen cystitis glandularis with intestinal metaplasia. During cystoscopy, stone was not seen, we resected the mass than stone was appeared in buried into the wall and removed from the bladder wall. The stone was fragmented with holmium laser. The pathology of the mass was cystitis glandularis with intestinal metaplasia whish is rarely seen and may be malign by the time. We followed up the patient with cystoscopy every 3 months and no recurrens was detected.Öğe Investigation of Demodex SPP. On the perinea in women visiting urology and gynecology policlinics(Drunpp-Sarajevo, 2012) Beytur, Leyla; Karaman, Ulku; Beytur, Ali; Altindag, Murat; Gecit, Ilhan; Ozer, Ali; Colak, CemilAim: It is reported that species of Demodex can be found in various locations on human body and transmitted via close contact. Types of Demodex are reported to be located in various places of human body. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between age and incidence of Demodex spp. among female patients complaining of pruritus in the perinea area. Method: Samples taken from perinea areas of the women using standardized surface skin biopsy (SSSB). Accordingly, samples were obtained using SSSB method from the faces and perinea areas of 431 women aged 18-55, which were then covered with entellan and sent to the parasitological laboratory. Specimens were covered with entellan and evaluated in Parasitology Laboratory. Results: Among the 431 specimens, 21.1% revealed Demodex spp., 1.6% revealed mite, 3.05% revealed Enterobius vermicularis eggs, 0.2% revealed Taenia spp. eggs, and 0.2% revealed Phthirus pubis. Conclusion: It was concluded that it should be taken into consideration that species of Demodex can be found in the women perinea region, thus specimens should be taken from patients consulting with pruritus or allergic reactions in order to diagnose the parasite, and treatment protocol should be planned in this direction. In addition, experimental studies may be planned to investigate the relationship between the parasite intensity in perinea region and pathogenity.Öğe The Prolidase Activity, Oxidative Stress, and Nitric Oxide Levels of Bladder Tissues with or Without Tumor in Patients with Bladder Cancer(Springer, 2017) Gecit, Ilhan; Eryilmaz, Recep; Kavak, Servet; Meral, Ismail; Demir, Halit; Pirincci, Necip; Gunes, MustafaThis study was designed to evaluate the malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and nitric oxide (NO) levels, and also prolidase, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activities in malignant and benign cancers of bladder tissue. A total of 59 patients admitted to our clinic due to microscopic or macroscopic haematuria, were prospectively included in the study. Because of some reasons (no request to participate in the study, the inability to reach, other malignancies, alcohol consumption, metabolic disease), eight patients were excluded from study. Of the 51 patients, 25 were bladder tumor patients, and 26 were patients without cancers. The bladder tissue samples were obtained from all patients under anesthesia (spinal, epidural or general) for the measurement of MDA, GSH and NO levels, and prolidase, GSH-Px and SOD enzyme activities. Among the patients with bladder cancers, 7 patients were females and 18 patients were males, with an average age of 68.4 +/- 2.49. Among patients without tumors, 6 patients were females and 20 patients were males, with an average age of 58 +/- 2.05. In patients with bladder tumors, the oxidants (MDA, NO, prolidase) were higher, and the antioxidants (SOD, GSH, GSH-Px) were lower than those in patients without tumors. It was concluded that the oxygen free radicals play a role in the etiology of bladder cancers similar to many other tumors and inflammatory conditions. Therefore, we assume that antioxidants may provide benefits in the prevention and treatment of bladder cancer.Öğe Serum cadmium levels are independently associated with endothelial function in hemodialysis patients(Springer, 2012) Kaya, Yuksel; Ari, Elif; Demir, Halit; Gecit, Ilhan; Beytur, Ali; Kaspar, CigdemHemodialysis (HD) patients are at risk of deficiency of essential trace elements and excess of toxic trace elements. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relation between the serum levels of some trace elements and heavy metals (iron, zinc, manganese, copper, magnesium, cobalt, cadmium, and lead) and endothelial function in HD patients. Forty-eight chronic HD patients without known atherosclerotic disease and 42 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were included in the study. The serum levels of trace elements (iron, zinc, manganese, copper, and magnesium) and heavy metals (cobalt, cadmium, and lead) were measured by Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer (UNICAM-929). The serum levels of iron, zinc, and manganese were lower, and levels of copper, magnesium, cobalt, cadmium, and lead were higher in HD patients compared to controls. Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD %) in HD patients was lower than that in the control group (7.27 +/- A 0.76 vs. 11.29 +/- A 0.82, P < 0.001). There was a significant negative correlation between FMD % and serum levels of cobalt (r = -0.313, P = 0.03) and cadmium (r = -0.524, P < 0.01). A linear regression analysis showed that serum cadmium levels were still significantly and negatively correlated with FMD % (regression coefficient = -0.526, P < 0.001). We first demonstrated that serum cadmium levels independently predict endothelial function in HD patients without known atherosclerotic disease.
