Öğe Comparison for oral health-related quality of life in fibromyalgia subgroups according to fibromyalgia impact questionnaire: A preliminary study(2021) Ozkan, Yasemin; Guler, Berceste; Ozkan, Yasemin; Cukurluoz Bayindir, BanuAim: This study aimed to compare the relationship between the severity of fibromyalgia and oral health-related quality of life in participant subgroups according to the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire.. Materials and Methods: Forty female participants aged 46.18±8.91 years old who were diagnosed with fibromyalgia were included in the study. Demographic data, education status, smoking, systemic anamnesis, employment status was recorded. Decayed, missing and filled teeth index values, periodontal situation and removable prosthesis conditions were evaluated. Participants were asked to fill three self-reported questionnaires: the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire, oral health impact profile-14 and general oral health assessment ındex scores. Fibromyalgia subgroups were classified as FM-Type I and FM-Type II according to the Souza et al classification. The primary outcome of which relationship between subcategorize of oral health related quality of life indexes and fibromyalgia impact questionnaire values were evaluated with Spearman correlation analysis. Results: The total value of oral health impact profile-14 was found to be 12.25±9.17 in the FM-Type I group and 19.74±10.48 in the FM-Type II group. There was a statistically significant relationship between fibromyalgia subgroups and oral health impact profile-14 psychological impacts (p=0.031) and total values (p=0.023). The values of total fibromyalgia impact questionnaire scores were obtained on a wide scale between 34.08 and 93.34, and the mean value was measured as 67.06 ± 16.06. The fibromyalgia impact questionnaire median cut-off score was detected as 66.42 according to ROC analysis. Conclusion: The higher negative oral health related quality of life values were observed in participants more severely affected by fibromyalgia. In addition to medical and psychiatric treatment of fibromyalgia participants, evaluation of dental conditions may be suggested.Öğe The comparison of postoperative wound healing following different gingivectomy techniques: A randomized prospective clinical trial(2019) Guler, Berceste; Isler, Cagri Sila; Uraz, Ahu; Bozkaya, Suleyman; Cetiner, Fitnat DenizAim: The aims of this study were to examine the degree of clinical discomfort condition experienced by patients and to improve wound healing by dental researcher throughout two weeks after gingivectomy treatment. Material and Methods: Forty-one patients suffering from gingival overgrowth were included in this study. Patients were divided into three groups for gingivectomy technique defined as; scalpel group (SG), ceramic rotary bur group (CG) and diode laser group (LG). The postoperative evaluating parameters as pain, burning, bleeding, epithelization, carbonization is recorded and standardized photographs were taken at 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 14th days postoperatively. All photographs were examined by the image analyzing software program. Results: The percentage of epithelization in the CG group is higher than the SG and LG group, but this value is not statistically significant on postoperative day 3. The LG group showed statistically significantly lower epithelization value on postoperative day 5. On postoperative day 1, VAS pain scores were significantly higher in the SG than in the LG; however, there were no statistically significant differences between the SG and CG. On postoperative day 3 and day 5, the SG pain scores were significantly higher than those from the CG; however, there were no statistically significant differences between the LG and CG. Conclusion: Aspect to controlled gingival tissue removing than diode laser and postoperative inflammation and wound healing values were observed almost equal with diode laser value; so ceramic gingiva burs may be an alternative treatment that is comparatively easier to implement and provide faster gingival recoveryÖğe The effects of gingival biotype on delayed tooth eruption in different age groups: A preliminary cross-sectional study(2018) Bag, Irem; Guler, BercesteAim: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between gingival biotype and delayed eruption using the probe transparency technique in different age groups. The hypothesis of the present study is that the thick gingival biotype may lead to delayed eruption. Material and Methods: A total of 131 patients (mean age, 90.21± 27.76 months), including 68 males and 63 females were included in the study. Patients were examined in 3 groups according to their dentition periods: between the ages of 3-5 years in Group 1 (G1), 6-8 years in Group 2 (G2), and 9-12 years in Group 3 (G3). Clinically, the gingival biotype was recorded by probe transparency technique. Dental age of the patients was evaluated according to Demirjian method on digital panoramic radiographs. Statistically the chi-square test was used for analysing between the gingival biotype and delayed eruption. Results: The thick gingival biotype was observed in 88.4% and 79.1% in the maxilla and mandible in G1, respectively. In G2, thick biotype-related maxillary delayed eruption was observed in 35% of patients. In G3, the patients who have a thin gingival biotype in mandibular arch showed premature eruption. Conclusion: Delayed eruption may be related especially in thick gingival biotype in maxillary arch
