Öğe The Association Between Religious Belief and Treatment Adherence Among Those with Mental Illnesses(Springer, 2021) Kavak Budak, Funda; Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Ozdemir, Aysel A.This study was conducted to determine the association between religious belief and treatment adherence among those with mental illness. The sample size of this cross-sectional study was determined to be 255 patients diagnosed with mental illness via power analysis. A descriptive characteristics form prepared by the researcher, the Systems of Belief Inventory, and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale were used to collect data. Patients were listed and chosen by using a simple random sampling method. This study found no significant correlation between religious belief and treatment adherence (p > .05). It was determined that treatment adherence was moderate in patients with high religious beliefs and that treatment adherence was low in patients with low religious beliefs. Practice ImplacitionsIt is recommended to organize comprehensive training programs for the students and their families in the school health services.Öğe The correlation between spiritual well-being and psychological resilience in patients with liver transplant(2019) Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Kavak, Funda; Özdemir, AyselAbstract: This study was conducted to determine the correlation between spiritual well-being and psychological resilience in patients with liver transplant. 127 patients determined via power analysis participated in the correlational descriptive study. The study was conducted at a liver transplant hospital in the east of Turkey between October 2017 and October 2018. Introductory Characteristics Form which was prepared by the researcher as well as Spiritual Well-Being Scale and Brief Resilience Scale were used in order to collect the data. It was determined that the patients’ spiritual well-being was 34.85±6.70 and their psychological resilience was 19.96±3.54. In the study, it was determined that there was a statistically positive correlation between the patients’ spiritual well-being and psychological resilience (p?0.05). In the study, it was determined that the patients who went through liver transplant had a higher spiritual well-being and psychological resilience and as their spiritual well-being increased, their psychological resilience increased. It is required for healthcare professionals to examine the well-being and psychological status of patients at certain intervals and develop skills of establishing a therapeutic relationship with patients and patient relatives.Öğe Does Spiritual Well-Being Affect Medication Adherence in Individuals Diagnosed with Mental Illness in Turkey?(Springer, 2022) Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Kavak Budak, FundaSpiritual well-being has been evaluated as an important factor for both physical and mental recovery. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between spiritual well-being and medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with mental illness. The study was conducted as a correlational descriptive study. The study sample consisted of 410 individuals diagnosed with mental illness. The study was conducted in the psychiatry clinic of a university hospital. The data were collected using a descriptive information form, the spiritual well-being scale, and the Morisky medication adherence scale. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between spiritual well-being and treatment adherence (r = 0.856, p = 0.002). Patient spiritual well-being was significant in explaining medication adherence (R-2 = 0.48, p = 0.000). This study showed that spiritual well-being affected medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with mental illness.Öğe The effect of mindfulness on medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with Schizophrenia: A cross-sectional study(Wiley, 2022) Yildirim Usenmez, Tulay; Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Erkan, Fatma Melike; Bayar, Behiye Dilmen; Can, Sevinc Yasar; Sanli, Mehmet EminObjective The aim of this study is to determine the effect of mindfulness on medication adherence in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted with 147 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. Results A strong positive correlation was determined between the mindfulness level and medication adherence of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Furthermore, mindfulness of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia was statistically significant in explaining medication adherence (p < 0.05) and mindfulness predicted medication adherence by 64%. Conclusion It was observed that the individuals' mindfulness level was low and half of the participants had low medication adherence. Moreover, as their mindfulness level increased, so did their medication adherence.Öğe The Effect of Mindfulness-based Psychoeducation on Negative Automatic Thoughts and Medication Adherence in Individuals with Cannabis Use Disorder: a Randomized Controlled Trial(Springer, 2024) Budak, Funda Kavak; Akbeniz, Aysel; Erkan, Fatma Melike; Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Cumurcu, Hatice BirgelThe aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of mindfulness-based psychoeducation on negative automatic thoughts and medication adherence in individuals with cannabis use disorder. The randomized controlled study was conducted between September 2021 and December 2022 in the psychiatry clinic of a university hospital in Turkey. The sample size of the study consisted of 60 individuals (30 experimental groups, 30 control groups). Descriptive Characteristics Form, Negative Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire, and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale were used to collect data. In the study, while eight sessions of mindfulness-based psychoeducation were given to the experimental group, no intervention was applied to the control group. Experimental group posttest negative automatic thoughts and medication adherence scale total mean scores were found to be statistically significant (p < 0.05). It was determined that the posttest negative automatic thoughts scale total score mean in the experimental group decreased compared to the control group, and the medication adherence scale total score mean increased compared to the control group. It was determined that mindfulness-based psychoeducation given to individuals with cannabis use disorder was effective in negative automatic thoughts and adherence to treatment.Öğe Effect of Perceived Social Support on Self-care Agency and Loneliness Among Elderly Muslim People(Springer, 2022) Dural, Gul; Budak, Funda Kavak; Ozdemir, Aysel A.; Gultekin, AbdurrezzakThis study was conducted to investigate the effect of perceived social support on self-care agency and loneliness among elderly Muslim people. This study used a cross-sectional design and included 965 elderly individuals who met the inclusion criteria. There was a positive correlation between perceived social support and self-care agency and a negative correlation between perceived social support and loneliness in elderly muslim individuals (p < 0.05). It is recommended that psychiatric nurses should activate the social support mechanisms of elderly individuals, and necessary follow-ups to increase self-care agencies must be conducted.Öğe The Effect of Religious Belief on Depression and Hopelessness in Advanced Cancer Patients(Springer, 2021) Kavak Budak, Funda; Ozdemir, Aysel; Gultekin, Abdurrezzak; Ayhan, M. Osman; Kavak, MustafaThis study was conducted to determine the effect of religious belief on depression and hopelessness in advanced cancer patients. The sample size of this cross-sectional study was determined as 267 as a result of the power analysis. The study was carried out between February 2018 and December 2018. The Patient Information Form, The Religious Attitude Scale, The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and The Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) were used to collect the data. It was determined that the total mean score of the cancer patients participating in the study for Religious Attitude Scale was 4.51 +/- 0.44 (high level), their total mean score for depression inventory was 19.06 +/- 9.38 (moderate level), and their total mean score for hopelessness scale was 10.23 +/- 1.94 (moderate level). In the study, the difference between the religious beliefs and depression and hopelessness levels of the cancer patients was statistically significant (p < 0.05). In the study, it was determined that depression and hopelessness levels of cancer patients were moderate and their religious beliefs were high. It is recommended for healthcare professionals to add spirituality to healthcare in order to provide the spiritual relief of cancer patients.Öğe The relationship between domestic violence against women and suicide risk(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2018) Kavak, Funda; Akturk, Ummuhan; Ozdemir, Aysel; Gultekin, AbdurrezzakAim: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between domestic violence against women and suicide risk. Methods: The population of the study consisted of married women aged 18 years and over in 10 Family Health Centers located within the boundaries of Yesilyurt Municipality of Malatya Province. The study was completed with 1025 women. In the data collection, a 6-question questionnaire prepared by the researcher upon the literature review, Domestic Violence Scale, and Suicide Probability Scale were used. Percentage distribution, arithmetic mean, independent samples t test, and correlation were used to assess the data. Results: In the study, it was found that domestic violence levels of the women were high and their suicide risks were moderate. A statistically positive correlation was determined between DVS subscale and total mean scores of the women and their suicide risk subscale and total mean scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that as the women's exposure to domestic violence increased, their suicide risks also increased. It can be recommended to establish centers for women and organize trainings in order to prevent domestic violence and suicide risk in women.Öğe The Relationship Between Spiritual Well-Being, Life Satisfaction and Hope in Elderly Individuals in Turkey(Springer, 2023) Ozdemir, Aysel A.; Buda, Funda Kavak; Dural, Gul; Gultekin, AbdurrezzakLife satisfaction and hope are important features in elderly individuals. Spiritual well-being is thought to affect life satisfaction and hope in the elderly. This study was conducted to determine the association between spiritual well-being and life satisfaction and hope in elderly persons. This study followed a cross-sectional design. The sample size of the study was 1383 individuals aged 65 or older. The Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp), Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Hope Scale were administered to participants. Results indicated that spiritual well-being was significantly associated with life satisfaction and hope (p < 0.05). A limitation of this finding is the possible contamination of the measure of spiritual well-being with indicators of meaning and peace that could explain the relationship between spiritual well-being and hope. The spiritual well-being scale used in this research included indicators of meaning and peace that could explain the relationship between spiritual well-being and hope.
