Some blood parameters such as total leukocytes, granulocytes, agranulocytes, erythrocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were also determined in the liver tissue of Cyprinus carpio L.1758.Öğe Determination of copper and zinc levels of hydatid cyst fluids in liver, lung and spleen of cattle and sheep(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2006) Küçükbay, FZ; Bayraktar, M; Bayraktar, N; Durmaz, RThis study was undertaken to investigate the copper and zinc levels of hydatid cyst fluids in liver, lung, and spleen of infected cattle and sheep in the Malatya region. The copper and zinc values were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Copper average levels of hydatid cyst fluids in liver, lung and spleen of cattle were found to be 1.944 +/- 0.372 mu g/dL, 1.272 +/- 0.469 mu g/dL and 2.234 +/- 0.932 mu g/dL, respectively, and that of zinc 0.312 +/- 0.147 mu g/dL, 1.112 +/- 1.035 mu g/dL and 0.886 +/- 0.405 mu g/dL. Average copper levels of hydatid cyst fluids in liver and lung of sheep were found to be 2.542 +/- 0.352 mu g/dL and 1.552 +/- 0.558 mu g/dL, respectively, whereas those of zinc were found to be 0.747 +/- 0.151 mu g/dL and 1.220 +/- 0.379 mu g/dL. A limited number of studies have been done about this problem in Turkey and there is no similar work done in Malatya. Serum vitamin A and beta-carotene levels in 56 pre-school age children who had recurrent acute respiratory infections (ARI) or recurrent diarrhoea were determined by a UV/VIS spectrometer. The results obtained were compared with 35 healthy pre-school age children, Serum vitamin A (51.66 +/- 8.10 mu g/dL) and beta-carotene (82.88 +/- 18.5 mu g/dL) levels in children with ARI's were found significantly lower than the control group (58.14 +/- 9.07 mu g/dL and 131.43 +/- 22.38 mu g/dL, respectively) (P < 0.001). Serum vitamin A (47.21 +/- 8.27 mu g/dL) and beta-carotene (81.63 +/- 15.41 mu g/dL) levels in children with recurrent diarrhoea were also found significantly lower than the control group (58.14 +/- 9.07 mu g/dL and 131.43 +/- 22.38 mu g/dL, respectively) (P < 0.001).Öğe Significance of serum trace element status in patients with rheumatic heart disease - A prospective study(Springernature, 2005) Kosar, F; Sahin, I; Acikgöz, N; Aksoy, Y; Küçükbay, FZ; Cehreli, SIt is known that certain trace elements can affect various heart diseases. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the changes in concentrations of certain serum trace elements in patients with chronic rheumatic heart disease (RHD). Serum analysis of selenium (Se), zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu) trace elements was assayed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. RHD patients had significantly lower serum concentrations of Se and Zn than control subjects (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001, respectively). However, the serum Cu concentration was significantly higher in RHD patients than in controls (1.93 +/- 0.59 mu g/L vs 1.06 +/- 0.29 mu g/L; p < 0.001). Similarly, the Cu/Zn ratio in RHD patients was higher than in control subjects (4.70 +/- 0.92 vs 1.68 +/- 0.45; p < 0.001). Additionally, no significant correlation was found among these trace element concentrations and the functional capacity classes (p > 0.05). RHD patients had decreased serum Se and Zn element concentrations and increased serum Cu element concentration. We suggest that Se and Zn deficiency might be contributory factors in the development of rheumatic heart disease, and a high Cu concentration and a high Cu/Zn ratio might reflect an ongoing inflammatory process in this disease.
