Öğe ON THE SOCIOLOGICAL OPINIONS OF MUBECCEL BELIK KIRAY(Istanbul Univ, Methodology & Sociology Research Center, 2017) Kacmazoglu, H. BayramThis article critically examines the sociological views of Mubeccel B. Kiray, one of Turkey's leading sociologists. Specifically, this article focuses on Kiray's opinions on sociological approach as well as her concepts of social change. It analyzes the determinations of patronage relations on the different segments comprising the social structure of Turkey and the social structure of Ottomans, social stratification, and modernization and consumption indicators. Kiray, widely considered as an empiricist, positivist, evolutionist, and a universalist sociologist, is known for her critiques of Western politicians' and scientists' views on Turkey. The theories she has developed in Turkey through the sociological assessment of shanties, urbanization, and metropolitanism, as well as those she developed based on structural-functionalist sociology, are also discussed in this article.Öğe SOCIOLOGICAL VIEWS OF DOGAN ERGUN(Istanbul Univ, Methodology & Sociology Research Center, 2016) Kacmazoglu, H. BayramIn this article, the contributions of Dogan Ergun who is one of the leading sociologists in Turkey to the discipline of sociology are analyzed critically. Dogan Ergun who deals with sociology in terms of dialectic approach puts forward his views with Turkish Individual Theory and Turkish National Personality Theory. Ergun theorizes the historical and cultural characteristics of the Turkish society and individual which have been formed, shaped and changed due to social change throughout the history. Ergun compares the liberal-individualistic Western societies with the public-statist Eastern ones and deals with the method problem in sociology and criticizes it consciously. Ergun who doesn't care much about the historical and philosophical basis of sociology in his researches proves the differences between Turkish society-individual and the Western societies and individuals. The main research areas of Dogan Ergun are the essence of the method, the differences of Turkish society from the Westerns, Turkish identity, Turkish personality, the characteristics of the Turkish individual, history-society, society-individual, society-educational issues and social change.Öğe SOME OBSERVATIONS ON THE 100 YEARS EXPERIENCE OF THE SOCIOLOGY IN TURKEY(Istanbul Univ, Methodology & Sociology Research Center, 2015) Kacmazoglu, H. BayramIn this article, some inferences, evaluations and classifications are discussed about Turkish sociology which dates back to 100 years. General characteristics and trends of sociology in Turkey, together with the orientations and research fields of the sociologists are tried to be determined. Along with the 100-year Turkish sociology history, the paradigms, approaches and ecoles that are transferred and adopted from the west are discussed and the main factor, continuity and the disengagements are stated. Also in this article, attention is drawn to the sociologists who produce theories about the difference of the eastern and Turkish societies from the western ones. Some sociologists from the Turkish sociology history who are distinguished by their opinions and theories are also examined shortly within the framework of this article.
