Determination of the tendency of imprudent behavior and malpractice in nursing students of a state university
(2020) Cevik Durmaz, Yadigar; Kaplan Serin, Emine; Dogan, Runida; Isik, Kevser
Aim: This study was conducted to determine the tendency of imprudent behavior and malpractice in nursing students of a state university. Materials and Methods: The sample of this descriptive cross-sectional study consisted of 103 students. Results: The vast majority of the students indicated factors such as small number of nurses working, high workload, fatigue, stress and loading nurses with off-duty jobs as causes of medical malpractice. Conclusion: The majority of medical malpractices occur due to preventable imprudent behavior. Although the tendency of nurses to perform medical malpractice appears to be low, providing trainings on reducing medical malpractices may contribute to raising awareness on patient safety.

THE DISCHARGE RELATED LEARNING NEEDS OF HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL TRANSPLANT RECIPIENTS
(2020) İster, Emine Derya; Kaplan Serin, Emine; Bayır, Berna; Erkurt, Mehmet Ali
Abstract: This study has been carried out to determine the learning needs of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at the discharge stage. 100 patients undergoing transplantation in the Stem Cell Transplantation Unit of a university hospital in Turkey in 2018 have constituted the sample of the study. The "Patient Information Form" and the "Patient Learning Needs Scale" have been used as data collection tools in the study. In the study, the data have been collected 2-48 hours before the patients were discharged. The mean total score of the Patient Learning Needs Scale of the patients is 212.93±29.37, and the learning needs of the patients are generally high. The mean score of the treatment and complications subscale is 4.40±0.61, and the level of significance of the patients' learning needs is highest in this dimension. This is followed by; quality of life, drugs, life activities, community and follow-up, skin care and feelings about the condition, respectively. The mean total score of the scale was not affected by gender, marital status, employment status, existing chronic disease, educational level, and type of transplantation (p>0.05). It was concluded that the learning needs of each patient undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were high.

The Effect of the Transtheoretical Model Based Walking Exercise Training and Follow-Up on Improving Exercise Behavior and Metabolic Control in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
(Sage Publications Inc, 2021) Kaplan Serin, Emine; Citlik Saritas, Seyhan
This study aims to determine the effects of transtheoretical model-based walking exercise training and follow-up on improving exercise behavior and metabolic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. This randomized controlled trial was conducted as a pre-test and post-test experimental model with 76 intervention and 76 control individuals. The intervention group received the transtheoretical model-based exercise training. Data were collected using patient identification form, transtheoretical model scales, pedometer and metabolic outcomes. Data were analyzed by Chi square, two-way ANOVA, Mauchly's, Greenhouse-Geisser, Friedman, and McNamer test. The overall score means for the exercise change processes, decision-making balance and self-efficacy scales increased compared to the pre-test (p < .001). The mean HDL increased from 41.39 +/- 10.35 to 49.18 +/- 11.58, and average number of steps per day increased from 3264.31 +/- 1933.03 to 5639.37 +/- 2317.01. Consequently, this difference between the groups was significant (p < .05).

Fear of COVID 19 and social effects in liver transplant patients
(Elsevier, 2021) Dogan, Runida; Kaplan Serin, Emine; Bagci, Nazlican
Background: This study was descriptively conducted to evaluate the fear of COVID 19 and its social effects on patients who had liver transplant. Methods: The study was conducted between September 2020 and April 2021 in a liver transplant institute affiliated with a university hospital. The sample of the study was 135 patients. Personal Information Form, Fear of Covid 19 Scale, and Questionnaire of Social Impact of COVID 19 Pandemic were used to collect data. Results: It was determined that the Fear of Covid 19 Scale mean score of the patients was 21.25 +/- 6.99. As the fear of COVID 19 increases in patients who had liver transplant, it was determined that their desire to be in crowded environments, to prefer public transportation, to go to the doctor for examination and their focusing on various objectives were decreasing. Also, fear of COVID 19 increased the difficulty in sleep, storage of food and cleaning materials, washing hands frequently, using masks and gloves when going out, health concerns, doubts about disease symptoms, orientation towards healthy eating, worries about the future and questioning the meaning of life. Conclusion: The results show that it is important for transplant centers to be able to provide guidance and psychological counseling services to liver transplant patients, who are significantly affected by COVID 19, through telemedicine or various technological opportunities.

Oral mucous membrane condition of the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the measures taken for the protection
(2020) Tuluce, Derya; Kaplan Serin, Emine; Kutluturkan, Sevinc
Aim: This study was carried out to evaluate the oral mucous membranes of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and to determine the measures taken for the protection of oral mucous membranes. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out as a descriptive and cross-sectional study. This study was carried out with 200 patients admitted to the chest diseases polyclinic and clinic of a hospital. The patient information form, the “Oral Mucosa Risk Assessment Form" and the " Oral Evaluation Guide" were used in the evaluation of data. Results: A significant positive relationship was found between the mean score of oral mucosa risk assessment form and the mean score of oral evaluation guide. A statistically significant positive relationship was found between the mean score of oral mucosa risk assessment form and the mean score of oral evaluation guide and age, year of disease and the duration of inhaler use. Conclusion: According to the results, it was observed that the oral care of COPD patients was moderate; however, they did not pay sufficient attention to tooth brushing. Nursing approaches for the prevention of oral mucous membranes should be determined in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
