Öğe Effects of melatonin treatment on the spermatogenesis and serum inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic rats(2018) Bozkurt, Aliseydi; Karabakan, Mehmet; Aydin, Merve; Gumustas, Sinem; Onk, Didem; Gursul, Cebrail; Erol, Huseyin SerkanAim: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known to have side effects on sexual and reproductive functions in males. The aim of current study was to investigate the effect of melatonin treatment on spermatogenesis and serum inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic rats. Material and Method: Eighteen adult Wistar albino male rats were divided randomly into three groups each containing 6 rats; control group (group 1), diabetic group (group 2), diabetic treated with melatonin group (group 3). Experimental diabetes was obtained by administrating 50 mg/kg streptozotocin. Melatonin treatment was administered intraperitoneally for 7 days at a dose of 20 mg, daily. Serum levels of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were assayed. Spermatogenesis was evaluated according to Johnsen score at immunopathological examination. Results: The Johnsen scores in control, diabetic and treatment groups were 9.78, 8.91, and 9.61, respectively. Spermatogenesis was negatively affected in diabetic rats and significantly improved with melatonin therapy (p0.05). The serum levels of TNF-α in diabetic rats were observed to be increased compared to the control group (p0.05). The levels of serum IL-1β and TNF- α were significantly decreased with melatonin treatment. IL-6 levels were not different among the three groups (p=0.248). Conclusions: In the present study, intraperitoneal melatonin treatment was determined to have a positive effect of on spermatogenesis and caused a decrease in serum inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic rats. Keywords: Cytokines; Diabetes Mellitus; Melatonin; Rats; Spermatogenesis.Öğe İyi diferansiye skrotal liposarkom(İnönü Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Dergisi, 2014) Karabakan, Mehmet; Akdemir, Alp Özgür; Öztekin, Çetin Volkan; Han, Özge; Akdemir, SerkanSkrotal liposarkomlar, genellikle 5. dekattan sonra görülen, yağ dokudan köken alan, oldukça nadir malign tümörlerdir. Bunun ardından çekilen bilgisayarlı tomografide pelvik kavitede vasküler malformasyonlar halinde lezyonlar tespit edilen hastanın kesin tanı ve tedavisi anjiografik olarak yapılmıştır.Öğe A Rare Case of Prostatic Brucellosis Mimicking Prostate Cancer(Urol & Nephrol Res Ctr-Unrc, 2014) Karabakan, Mehmet; Akdemir, Serkan; Akdemir, Alp Ozgur; Erkmen, Akif Ersoy; Kayabas, Uner[Abstract Not Available]Öğe The relationship between serum adropin levels and erectile dysfunction(Mre Press, 2024) Keskin, Ercument; Ekici, Ozgur; Erdogan, Abdullah; Bozkurt, Aliseydi; Sambel, Murat; Karabakan, Mehmet; Mertoglu, CumaErectile dysfunction (ED) is associated with endothelial damage, especially atherosclerosis. The search for biomarkers that can predict ED still continues. Adropin is known to affect nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability and energy homeostasis. In our study, we have aimed to investigate the relationship between serum adropin levels and ED. Male patients with and without ED between 40-60 years of age, who presented to the outpatient clinics of urology between November 2019-February 2020, were prospectively included in the study. Biochemical values measured at the time of admission to the outpatient clinic. According to the International Index of Erectile Function -5 (IIEF-5) scores which range between 5 and 25 points, patients with a score <= 21 were considered to have ED. The patients were divided into two groups: as ED and non -ED control groups. Laboratory values obtained at admission to outpatient clinics of urology were compared between groups. Patients with (n: 40), and without (n: 40) ED were included in the study. The mean age (50.2 +/- 5.7 years), average body mass index (BMI) (29.7 +/- 2.5 kg/m(2)), IIEF score (15.8 +/- 6 pts), serum adropin (584.8 +/- 172 pg/mL), and total testosterone (396.4 +/- 91.7 ng/dL) levels were recorded. Serum adropin and testosterone levels were statistically significantly higher in the non -ED group than in the ED group (712.3 +/- 222 pg/mL vs. 511.1 +/- 145 pg/mL, p < 0.001 and 420.5 +/- 56 ng/dL vs. 374.3 +/- 98 ng/dL, respectively p = 0.032). Whereas fasting blood glucose (FBG) values were found to be statistically significantly higher in the ED group (100.2 +/- 14 mg/dL vs. 143.8 +/- 78 mg/dL, p = 0.001). According to the results of our study, serum levels of adropin which improves endothelial functions were comparatively lower in ED patients, as expected.
