Öğe Effects of electroconvulsive therapy on certain attention tests in patients with schizophrenia(2022) Orman, Kübra; Kartal, Fatma; Kartalcı, Şükrü; Uğur, KerimIt is known that patients with schizophrenia have positive and negative symptoms, as well as deterioration in cognitive functions. The main objective of this study was to investigate the effects of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) on certain attention tests in patients with schizophrenia. The study included 103 patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia according to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria (39 outpatients receiving antipsychotic treatment alone, 32 inpatients receiving ECT+antipsychotic treatment, and 32 inpatients receiving antipsychotic treatment alone) and 42 healthy volunteers. The Stroop and digit span tasks were used as attention tests. Disease severity was assessed using the Scales for the Assessment of Positive/Negative Symptoms. There was a significant deterioration in the Stroop 4 and Stroop time difference values in all the three patient groups. No significant deterioration was observed in the digit span test in any of the groups. The Stroop 4, Stroop time difference and Stroop spontaneous correction scores were found to be associated with both negative and positive symptoms in the ECT+antipsychotic treatment group. The Stroop spontaneous correction scores were associated with positive symptoms only in the group receiving antipsychotic treatment alone. The only significant improvement in the number of spontaneous corrections was observed in the ECT group after therapy compared to the baseline. However, no significant change was observed in the Stroop 4 and Stroop time difference results, which were impaired compared to the normal scores. In the group receiving only antipsychotic treatment, there were significant improvements in Stroop 4, Stroop time difference and number of spontaneous corrections after treatment. In this study, it was determined that ECT added to drug treatment had positive rather than negative effects on the patients’ performance in attention tests, although not as much as drug treatment. However, it should be considered that the group in which ECT was added to treatment consisted of more severe cases.Öğe Evaluation of dynamic thiol/disulfide balance and oxidative metabolism in obsessive compulsive disorder patients(Klinik Psikiyatri Dergisi, 2023) Yilmaz, Omer Furkan; Kartal, Fatma; Kartalci, SukruObjective: We aimed to compare Total Oxidant Level (TOL), Total Antioxidant Level (TAL), Oxidative Stress Index (OSI), Thiol/Disulfide levels, Plasma Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in both plasma and erythrocyte patients with OCD and healthy controls. Method: Our study included 47 patients with OCD and 49 healthy controls. Sociodemographic data form was applied to all participants, CGI and Y-BOCS were applied to the patient group. TAL and TOL measurements were made in both plasma and erythrocytes, and Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Thiol/Disulfide measurements were made only in plasma. Results: TAL, TOL, OSI and MDA values in the plasma of the patient and control groups were compared, no statistically significant difference was found. However, erythrocyte TAS level was lower in the patient group (p<0.05) and OSI level was higher (p<0.05) in the patient group. While no difference was observed in plasma total thiol level in the patient group compared to the cont-rols, plasma native thiol levels were significantly higher (p<0.001) and plasma disulfide levels were significantly lower (p<0.05). Conclusion: The high level of native thiol, an antioxidant molecule in plasma, in OCD patients can be interpreted as an effort to compensate for the decreased antioxidant capacity in erythrocytes. According to these results, we think that when evaluating oxidative stress parameters in psychiatric diseases such as OCD, it is important to study the thiol/disulfide ratio as well as the total oxidant capacity of the plasma, and it would be appropriate to measure these parameters not only in the plasma but also in the erythrocyte.Öğe Parietal Cortex Volume and Functions in Major Depression and Bipolar Disorder: A Cloud-Based Magnetic Resonans Imaging Study(Turkish Neuropsychiatry Assoc-Turk Noropsikiyatri Dernegi, 2024) Kilic, Fatma; Kartal, Fatma; Erbay, Mehmet Fatih; Karlidag, RifatIntroduction: The present study aimed to compare the Parietal Lobe (PL) volumes and Cancellation Test (CT) performances of euthymic patients with Bipolar Disorder -1 (BD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and healthy controls. Methods: The present study included 63 participants in three groups; two patient groups in remission involving patients with BD and MDD diagnosed according to DSM-5 and a control group with healthy individuals. Sociodemographic Data Form, CT, and Hand Preference Questionnaire were applied to all participants. Participant PL volumes were measured with the Cloud-Based Brain Magnetic Resonance Image Segmentation - Parcellation System. Results: Both patient groups exhibited lower PL volume when compared to the control group, and there was no difference between the patient groups based on PL volume. It was determined that MDD and BB patients scored less in the CT when compared to the control group. There was a weak correlation between right and left PL volumes and CT performances. Conclusion: The present study findings demonstrated that BD and MDD patients in remission exhibited lower PL volume and CT performance when compared to healthy controls, emphasizing that PL could be structurally and functionally significant in the pathophysiology of mood disorders.Öğe Relationship between obsessional dissociation and family adjustment and anxiety sensitivity in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2023) Polat, Hatice; Kartal, Fatma; Ugur, KerimPurpose: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between obsessional dissociation, family accommodation, and anxiety sensitivity in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).Materials and Methods: The participants of this descriptive and relationship-seeking study were 62 individuals with OCD and 43 healthy controls. We collected data using a sociodemographic data form, the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS), the Family Accommodation Scale-Patient Version (FAS-PV), the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 (ASI-3), and the Van Obsessional Dissociation Questionnaire (VOD-Q).Results: Both the ASI-3 and VOD-Q subscale and global scores of the patients participating in the study were higher than those of the healthy controls, and there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Sixty-two percent of the total score of VOD-Q was explained by the ASI-3 total and subscale scores, 16% by the YBOCS total and subscale scores, and 11% by the FAS-PV total and subscale scores (F:38.622; F:6.797; and F:2.941, respectively). Conclusion: In our study, individuals diagnosed with OCD had higher levels of obsessional dissociation than healthy individuals and anxiety sensitivity, obsessive compulsive symptoms, and family accommodation are effective in the development of obsessional dissociation in individuals diagnosed with OCD.Öğe Servikal ve lomber disk hernili hastalarda ruhsal bulguların değerlendirilmesi(2021) Kartal, Fatma; Karlıdağ, Rifat; Uğur, KerimÖz: Amaç: Çalışmamızda servikal ve lomber disk hernilihastaların ruhsal bulgularını değerlendirmeyi amaçladık.
