Öğe Diagnostic estimation of OSAS using binary mixture logistic regression(2012) Kaya Y.; Ta?luk M.E.; Sezgin N.Binary (Binomial) Logistic Regression is a statistical model that can be used for classification. Concerning the targeted outcome, if the variance of observations is higher than the variance of expectations, because of overdispersion the success rate of the method in classification goes down. This overdispersion is thought as arising from the unobserved heterogen samples in the data set. In Composite models, the overdispersion is minimized by clustering the data into homogeneous subsets and performing a subset based process. In this study a composite binary logistic regression was used for estimating the sleep apnea. Through this model, snoring signals were classified and with a 98.16% success rate the apnea was diagnosed. © 2012 IEEE.Öğe Evaluation of intestinal parasites and risk factors in patients applying to outpatient clinics with digestive system complaints in Ordu Province(Refik Saydam National Public Health Agency (RSNPHA), 2022) Karaman Ü.; Kaya Y.; Özdemİr Ö.; Engİnyurt Ö.; Gamsizkan Z.; Çolak C.; Yolalan G.Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the parasite prevalence, species and factors affecting parasite positivity in patients with digestive system complaints in Ordu Province in Turkey. Methods: 317 patients who presented with gastrointestinal complaints were included in the study. A questionnaire including; socio-demographic characteristics of the patients, lifestyle and digestive system complaints was applied. Cellophane band method, nativ-lugol, sedimentation and Modifiye kinyoun acid-fast methods were used for the diagnosis of fecal parasites. After the samples were prepared and stained, they were examined under a microscope. Results: Parasite positivity was detected in 205 (64.66%) of 317 patients. Blastocystis spp. constitutes 34.1%, 34.7% of Cryptosporidium spp and 16.1% of Entamoeba coli. The incidence of helminths was 2.8% and the incidence of protozoa was 97.2%. 73.7% of the parasite positive patients were in the age group of 40 years and over, 72.7% were women, 81% were married, 65.6% were middle-income, 48.3% had a primary and secondary education level. 58.5% lived in villages, 74.1% were housewives / unemployed. 77.6% of the parasite positive patients lived in the nuclear family, 51.2% were using city water, 93.7% were eating vegetables predominantly. In 9 (4.4%) of the patients with parasite positivity, no parasite was detected at the first examination, and it was detected in the 2nd and 3rd Bakers. The complaints of salivation in Entamoeba coli, Blastocystis spp. and Cryptosporidium spp, and allergy, rectal itching, drooling, increased appetite were significantly higher in Enterobius vermicularis (p <0.05). Conclusion: It has been observed that there is a high rate of parasites in patients presenting with digestive complaints. Mostly Blastocystis spp., Cryptosporidium spp species were observed in Ordu Province. Patients who present with the complaint of digestion, especially those whose complaints do not improve, should definitely be evaluated in terms of parasites and the preliminary diagnosis of parasitosis should not be immediately ruled out, even if the first stool examination is negative. © 2022,Turk Hijyen ve Deneysel Biyoloji Dergisi. The faulty power transmission lines need to be isolated quickly for a continuous energy transmission. In this study, a new method was developed for detecting faults and fault type occurred in power transmission lines. The method concerns fault signals of real transmission lines. The Wigner-Ville energy distribution of these signals was obtained and this energy was mapped onto a gray-level co-occurrence matrix. Some fault related exclusive features were derived from this matrix. The faults were detected by classifying these features through some statistical and intelligence based methods. The results obtained by this method were compared to the ones obtained through earlier studies. © 2012 IEEE.Öğe Kortikal spindle salinim aktivitesinin oluşumunda ve senkronizasyonunda talamik projeksiyonlarin rolünün model temelli incelenmesi(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Tekin R.; Kaya Y.; Sezgin N.; Ta?luk M.E.In this study, mechanisms of formation of thalamocortical spindle oscillations, which are critical for various functions of the brain, have been examined on a model basis. For this, both spike activity and spectral characteristics were investigated by isolating the cortex and thalamus and then connecting them with thalamo-cortical projections. In order to determine the spindle activity in the LFP signal of each cell group, it has been tried to determine slow-wave and spindle frequency components which can coexist with each other on the basis of superposition. For this purpose, power spectral densities of LFP signals were analyzed. According to the results of this study, spindle activity can be seen in thalamus without cortex. It can be said that thalamo-cortical projections provided by the thalamic TC cells enable the spindle activity to be transferred into the cortex and thus display itself in LFP / EEG. At the same time, it has been observed that thalamo-cortical projections increase spike activity, equalize the dominant frequency in the whole system, and also cortico-thalamic projections strengthen spindle activity. © 2017 IEEE.Öğe The role of gender in psychotic illness perception and help-seeking behavior(2006) Kaya Y.; Ünal S.Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of gender in psychotic illness perception, causal attributions and suggested treatment options. Methods: Case scenario method was used in this cross-sectional study of 172 subjects. A single psychotic illness scenario was presented to male and female subjects as male and female patients, and open-ended questions were asked regarding the illness scenario. Sociodemographic data of subjects were evaluated with descriptive statistical methods. The percentages of responses to questions in the sample were calculated. Chi-square test was utilized to investigate the presence or absence of a statistical significance between subjects' perceptions of signs, causal attributions and suggested treatment options to the patients on the basis of gender. Results: The condition of the person in the scenario was attributed rather to the life problems by subjects with higher education (>11 years) and income (>600 NTL/month) levels (p=0.03) when both male and female subjects were evaluated together. While the male subjects described the condition of the person in the scenario as "sick" (31.4%) and "having psychological problems" (68.6%), these percentages were 41.9% and 58.1%, respectively, in female subjects. Both of the subject groups described both male and female persons in the scenario mostly as "having psychological problems". The source of problem in the scenario was attributed, both by male and female subjects, to marriage and interpersonal relationships (p=0.00) for female case, and work/economic problems (p=0.00) for male case. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that Turkish population in Malatya sample considers the patient gender as an important variable in psychotic illness definition, causal attributions and suggesting treatment options.
