Öğe Can balneotherapy help regulate blood pressure and pulse? a 10-day randomized trial on clinical efficacy and safety in daily practice(Springer, 2025) Ozkuk, Kagan; Dilekci, Erdal; Kayhan, MehmetThe aim was to examine the effects of Balneotherapy (BT) on blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) and to evaluate its clinical reliability in daily practice. The study was planned as a randomized, controlled, single-blind study. 240 patients were divided into two groups. All received a 2-week, 5-day-per-week, 10-session physical therapy (PT) programme. One group additionally received BT. Demographic data was collected. Arterial BP and HR were measured and recorded before and after the every session. The BT+PT group had a higher incidence of side effects (p<0.05). While systolic BP (SBP) decreased between the first and eighth day measurements in the BT+PT group, it increased on the second, fifth, and tenth days (p<0.05). SBP values in the PT group were higher at the third day and on days one through ten (p>0.05). Diastolic BP (DBP) increased at many measurement points in the PT group, but not in the BT+PT group (p>0.05). HR increased over time in both groups, and the sixth day measurement in the PT group was higher than in the BT+PT group (p<0.05). Slope analysis showed significant changes in SBP and DBP. The improved BP and HR values resulting from BT and PT applications show that these can prevent cardiovascular disease and prolong life. BT is safe when used by a qualified physician, especially in comorbid individuals.Öğe Determination of the prevalence of asthma and asthma symptoms in bakery workers in Malatya(2024) Topal, Erdem; Kayhan, Mehmet; , AdemAim: Asthma is one of the most commonly reported occupational lung diseases. Studies indicate that one of the primary causes of occupational asthma is baker’s asthma. This study aims to determine the prevalence of asthma and asthma-related symptoms among bakery workers in Malatya, Turkey. Materials and Methods: Designed as a cross-sectional study, this research was conducted through a survey to assess the prevalence of asthma, the frequency of asthma symptoms, and factors influencing asthma among bakery workers in Malatya between December 2022 and May 2023. Results: The study included 142 participants, comprising 139 men and 3 women. Of the participants, 35.5% had been working for over 21 years, while 34% had been employed for less than 10 years. Approximately 20% of participants reported atopic complaints. While 6.3% of workers were previously diagnosed with asthma, 14.1% had at least two asthma-related symptoms. The risk of asthma was notably higher among workers in dough production compared to those in other departments. Conclusion: Occupational exposure appears to significantly contribute to the increased frequency of asthma among bakers working in dough production.Öğe Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Otorhinolaryngology Examination and Hearing Evaluation Training for Family Physicians(Duzce Univ, Fac Medicine, 2024) Tetik, Burcu Kayhan; Gunduz, Emrah; Yasar, Seyma; Kayhan, MehmetObjective: In our study, it is aimed to investigate the level of knowledge of family physicians working in primary health care organizations about Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) diseases, to examine how they manage frequently admitted ENT patients, to identify the problems they experience during examination and to examine the effect of the training given. Methods: Participants were first administered a 30-question pre-test created by the researcher based on the literature. Then, a collective training lasting 2 days and 1.5 hours per day was given by an ENT specialist from the researchers and a post-test was applied. Afterwards, the topics in which the researchers made the most mistakes or remained uninterpreted were recorded and a training program including these topics was created and training was given. Results: Of the 21 family physicians over 30 years of age, 2 (14,29%) were male and 18 (85,71%) were female. When the time of graduation from medical school of the family physicians in the study was analyzed, the number of family physicians with 5-10 years of medical school graduation was 4 (19,05%), 10 (47,62%) with 10-20 years of medical school graduation, and 7 (33,33%) with more than 20 years of medical school graduation. All of the family physicians who participated in the study think that ENT education is important for primary care medicine. Conclusions: ENT diseases are common in primary care. In order for family physicians to manage their patients more comfortably, we believe that rotations in the field of ENT diseases in the postgraduate period would be appropriate.Öğe Turkish reliability of National Institutes of Health (NIH) Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System(2017) Kayhan, Mehmet; Mamur, Ahmet; Bilge, Ugur; Sungur, Serkan; Balcioglu, Huseyin; Unluoglu, IlhamiObjective: Scales can be used to determine the cause of constipation which is one of the gastrointestinal symptoms. In this study; our aim was to perform reliability study of the Turkish version of National Institutes of Health (NIH) Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) Constipation Scale. Materiel and Methods: The Constipation scale was translated into Turkish by three researchers, and a consensus meeting was held after the translation process. The Turkish text on which the researchers agreed was translated into English by an independent professional translator. The researchers decided that there was no difference between the translated English text and the source text after they compared the two texts in terms of meaning and comprehensibility. As a result of this process, the researchers obtained the final version on which they agreed and the accuracy of which was proved by back translation. Results: A total of 63 patients took part in this study. 32 of them (50.8%) were male, 31 of them (49.2%) were female. mean age of participants was 40,25±16,18 years. Mean questionnaire score was 11,38 ± 2,95. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.758 for 9 scale question. Discussion: This study shows that Turkish version of PROMIS-Constipation scale is reliable. We believe that this scale may be used for the objective assessment of patients with constipation in clinical practice.
