Milli Egitim Bakanligi, 2018) Konan N.; Yilmaz S.The main purpose of this research is to determine teacher opinions on the criteria used by school principals to assess the performance of teachers. This study is a mixed method research. The participants of the study consist of a total of 188 primary, secondary and high school teachers determined with a maximum variation. The quantitative findings of the research show that performance assessment criteria are ‘very’ appropriate in general. The participants’ scores for the appropriateness of the performance assessment did not show any significant difference in terms of gender, specialty, service length, and number of classroom supervision. The scores showed a meaningful difference only in terms of school types. High school teachers scored the assessment more appropriate than primary and secondary school teachers. However, the qualitative findings of the research show that teachers mostly share negative views on teacher performance evaluation. At the end of the research, it has been revealed that there are some problems related to the school principals such as objectivity, supervision competence instead of the criteria of teachers’ performance assessment. In addition, some situational and positive aspects have been mentioned by the participants. © 2018. All Rights Reserved.
