Öğe Examination of University Students' Boredom Experiences in Lessons(2019) Şimşek, Hüseyin; Kula, Sultan Selen; Baltacı, ÖnderAbstract:In this research, the students' boredom experiences in the lessons were investigatedaccording to the frequency of these experiences, type of lesson, reasons, resultingbehaviors and coping strategies. Survey model was used in the study. The sample ofthe study consisted of 376 university students, 217 male and 159 female. As the datacollection tool of the research, a questionnaire developed by researchers andconsisting of questions aimed at determining the boredom experiences of universitystudents in the lessons was used. In the study, from descriptive statistical techniques;the percentage, the frequency processes and the Crosstabs analysis method coveringthem were used to reveal the numerical results of the variables included in thequestionnaires. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that university studentsexperienced boredom in lessons in general; the students in all the units wereexperiencing the most boredom in elective lessons and less boredom in appliedlessons. University students tend to see the causes of their boredom as themselves andto the instructor who is responsible for the lesson. In order to get rid of the boredom, Itis concluded that they often act in different ways such as thinking other things besidesthe lesson, being occupied with their mobiles, chatting with friends, sleeping anddreaming. As a strategy to cope with the boredom, university students have chosen tobe prepared for the lesson, go to activities that reduce stress, not attend lessons, anddo other activities that they think will be more useful.
