(Makerere Univ, Fac Med, 2019) Yagmur, Yurdagul; Orhan, Ilksen
Background: Sexuality is an important factor that completes the lives of individuals and affects people in all age groups. Objectives: To examine the sexual functions of women before and after menopause. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Family Health Centers in Tunceli Turkey,\ between September 2014 and February 2015. The study data were obtained using a Questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index. The data were analyzed by number, percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and using binary logistic regression analysis. Results: The mean Female Sexual Function Index score of the women was 23.8 +/- 8.0. The Female Sexual Function Index score of 59.7% of women was below the cut-off score (26.55) and was accepted indicative of sexual dysfunction. Low educational level (P < 0.01), low income (P < 0.01), and menopausal status (P < 0.0001) of the women were risk factors for sexual dysfunction. Conclusion: Prevalence of sexual dysfunction in the women was very high and they indicated no effort to seek medical care. Low educational and income level and menopausal status of the women were three factors increasing the risk of sexual dysfunction. Awareness of the society and the healthcare professionals about the issue should be increased.

(Bmc, 2025) Orhan, Ilksen; Yagmur, Yurdagul
BackgroundThis study aims to determine the effect of motivational interviewing (MI), an effective communication technique, on healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life in menopausal women. MethodsThis is a randomized controlled empirical study. The study was conducted with a total of 136 women, including 68 for experimental group and 68 for control group. The data were collected using an introductory information form, the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLPL II) and the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL). Women in the experimental group received 6 sessions of motivational interviewing and 2 follow-up interviews in two family health centers (FHCs) from the researcher. No intervention was applied to women in the control group. The data were analyzed using number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test, Bonferroni test, independent samples t test and repeated ANOVA. ResultsThere was a statistically significant difference between the HPLPL II total scale and health responsibility, nutrition, spiritual development, interpersonal relationships, and stress management subscales pre-test, interim test and post-test mean scores of women in the experimental group, and their mean scores increased positively (p < 0.001). In addition, a statistically significant difference was also found between their MENQOL vasomotor, psychosocial, physical and sexual domains pre-test, mid-test and post-test mean scores (p < 0.05). ConclusionMotivational interviewing was found to be effective in increasing healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life in menopausal women.
