Öğe Analysis of Exchange Rate Pass Through with Asymmetric Causality Tests in Turkey(Eskisehir Osmangazi Univ, Fac Education, 2015) Bayat, Tayfur; Ozcan, Burcu; Tas, SebnemIn this study, we focused on the relationship between structural breaks and causality in order to reveal the exchange rate pass-through effect over the period January 2003 to December 2013 in Turkey. The traditional univariate unit root tests such as Dickey-Fuller (1979) test, Phillips-Perron (1988) test, and Zivot-Andrews (1992) test with one endonegous break were employed. Finally, the linear Granger causality test derived from the vector autoregressive model and the causality test developed by Breitung and Candelon (2006) were used. The results indicated that there is a structural break corresponds to the December 2007. According to the results of empirical analysis, the implementation of floating exchange rate policy along with the inflation targeting strategy has led the stability of exchange rates. Therefore, it was concluded that there is no pass-through effect in the economy of Turkey.Öğe Health Care Convergence Analysis in Turkey on the Province Level: Spatial Quantile Method(Elsevier Science Bv, 2016) Zeren, Fatma; Ozcan, Burcu; Mentese, Emin YahyaThe purpose of this study is to investigate the imparity of health care service in Turkey on the province level. Generally, beta convergence hypothesis is used for determining whether imparities are lowered. beta-convergence refers to an inverse relation between the relative growth rate of macroeconomic variable and its initial level. As a proxy variable for health care service, the number of practicing physicians per 10,000 individuals is used. The convergence hypothesis for health care service during the period from 2002 until 2010 is investigated by using the spatial quantile method. The results confirmed that there is convergence on province-basis for the period studied. In other words, it can be concluded that the imparity in terms of health care services offered to people in Turkey has decreased on the province level. There is also spatial interaction between provinces in terms of health care services. It is now handled and discussed by many scholars in different disciplines. Economists have started to analyze social capital in applied and theoretical studies since 1990s. While some of these scholars accept it as a new capital type, others do not. Thus, it can be said that it has a disputable place in economics discipline. However, economists especially examine its impact on countries' economic development levels and generally accept its importance and contributions to development. In this study, we examine the relationship between economic development and social trust by using spatial econometrics method in a sample of 27 European countries over a time span from 1999 to 2009. The findings suggest that a country's social trust level has positive impacts on economic development.
