Öğe Multi–functional intramedullary self-locking ulna nailing system: Proximal oblique locking without the need of fluoroscopic guidance, and it’s effects on olecranon joint surface(2020) Saglam, Necdet; Aytekin, Mahmut Nedim; Ozturk, Recep; Akpinar, FuatAim: Due to the necessity of using the small diameter nails in the ulna, negative outcomes such as failure in the self-locking, long term exposure to radiation, and increased operation time are expected. Several clinical trials propose that an ideal nail system for unlar fixation challenge has not been developed yet. Material and Methods: This study involved the use of a new multifunctional intramedullary self-locking ulna nailing system and 36 intact dry cadaveric ulna bones. The relationship between the oblique self-locking screw, which has made a crucial contribution to the nailing system, and the joint surface of olecranon was investigated because this screw does not necessitate the use of fluoroscopic guidance and is easy to apply. Results: In our study, during anterior or medial or posterior oblique locking, no olecranon joint surface damage occurred on any bone with a locking rate of 100%. Conclusion: The clinical trials demonstrated that the proximal oblique locking was achieved easily in a short period of time, indicating the device’s immense value for the patient and the surgeon.Öğe The Optimization of a Rapid Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis Protocol for the Typing of Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp.(Natl Inst Infectious Diseases, 2009) Durmaz, Riza; Otlu, Baris; Koksal, Fatih; Hosoglu, Salih; Ozturk, Recep; Ersoy, Yasemin; Aktas, ElifPulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) is the most common genotyping method used for the typing of a number of bacterial species. Generally, investigators use their own custom-developed protocol, but a standardized PFGE protocol would allow the comparison of typing results between laboratories and the tracing of strains around the country. In the present study, we optimized a PFGE protocol for subtyping of Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp., which are commonly isolated from nosocomial infections in many hospitals. Reproducibility of our PFGE procedure was studied three times at 2- to 3-week intervals. Epidemiological concordance of the optimized PFGE procedure was tested on seven isolates of A. baumannii from a previous outbreak and seven A. baumannii isolates randomly selected among the clinical isolates. The optimized PFGE procedure was evaluated on a total of 174 clinical isolates including 62 A. baumannii, 50 E. coli and 62 Klebsiella spp. The inter-laboratory reproducibility of the optimized protocol was tested at four laboratories. The optimized procedure is completed in 28 h after culturing. It is likely to be cost-effective, due to the reduction in the time, reagent volume and enzyme concentration needed. The procedure showed high concordance with epidemiological data. There were no non-typeable isolates among the tested bacteria. It is reproducible and versatile. This protocol can be used to identify outbreaks and monitor the spreading rate of nosocomial infections caused by the tested bacterial isolates. Furthermore, due to its high intra- and inter-laboratory reproducibility, the protocol has the potential to be useful for comparing PFGE fingerprinting profiles of the isolates from different settings.Öğe Prevalence and predictive factors of anxiety, depression and death anxiety in patients over 50-years of age at the tertiary care cancer center(2019) Atalay, Ismail Burak; Ozturk, Recep; Yapar, Aliekber; Simsek, Mehmet Akif; Engin, Eray Erturk; Gungor, Bedii SafakAim: This study was made to determine the frequency of the death anxiety, depression, and anxiety of the patients over the age of 50 years at the tertiary care cancer center in Turkey.Material and Methods: Patients were divided into three groups as the ones with tumoral disease (group 1), the ones with fracture (group 2), and the ones who have not tumor or fracture. All the participants were evaluated with geriatric anxiety scale (GAS), geriatric depression scale (GDS), and death anxiety scale (DAS).Results: There are 16(%17) patients in group 1, 27(%29) patients in group 2 and 50(%53) patients in group 3. Moreover, It was found that GAS, GDS, and DAS points were found to be similar and there was no significant difference between groups according to depression levels (p>0.05).It was found that age (OR=1.09; %95GA=1.01-1.19), tumor presence (OR=8.7; %95GA=1.02-74.43), GDS point (OR=1.21; %95GA=1.01-1.45) and being single/divorced (OR=0.05; %95GA=0.01-0.08) had significant effect on death anxiety. Conclusion: Geriatric anxiety, death anxiety, and depression of patients over age of 50 years in our hospital’s orthopedics clinic are similar independent of the presence of tumor, other diseases, tumor or fracture. And death anxiety is increasing with age in all the groups. Besides, old age, tumor presence, high level of GDS and being unmarried are the factors increasing the death anxiety.Öğe Primary low grade chondrosarcoma of the toe; an atypical localization(2020) Aytekin, Mahmut Nedim; Kafa, Baris; Celasun, Bulent; Uluyardimci, Enes; Oguz, Temel; Tosun, Nihat; Ozturk, RecepChondrosarcoma is one of the bone primary malign tumors. After myeloma and osteosarcoma it is the third primary malignant tumor of the bone. The most common locations are long bones, pelvis and ribs. Chondrosarcoma of the feet is an uncommon location. In this study, we present a 45-year-old female patient with chondrosarcoma of the right foot. We applied a marginal excision. No complication occur and no recurrence has not been seen during the patient’s 3-year postoperative follow-up.
