Öğe Effect of Difficulties Experienced by Parents of Autistic Children on Their Sexual Life: A Qualitative Study(Springer, 2012) Aylaz, Rukuye; Yilmaz, Ulviye; Polat, SevincThe study was conducted to investigate the difficulties experienced by parents of children with autism on their sexual life. The study used the method of focus group interviews and face-to-face in-depth interviews for qualitative studies. Interviews were held with the parents of 12 autistic children registered at the Application and Research Center for child with disability in Inonu University using a semi-structured questionnaire prepared by the investigators through screening. A voice recording device was used during the interviews, but since the parents expressed their unwillingness for any voice recording during the interviews about their sexual lives, face-to-face interviews were held with them in a suitable physical environment without any voice recording. It was found at the end of this study that the parents of autistic children experienced difficulties in their family relations, in social and economic spheres and in coping with the education and problematic behavior of their children and their sexual lives were adversely affected by such difficulties. It was observed that a large part of the responsibility for giving care to their children was assumed by women and their interaction and sexual relation with their husbands diminished for this reason. In view of these findings, we suggest that the nurses working in this particular field should provide professional social support to the parents and guide them into recognizing the difficulties they experience, the importance of their sexual life and the places from where they can get service.Öğe Psychometric Properties of the Child Feeding Scale in Turkish Mothers(Elsevier Science Inc, 2010) Polat, Sevinc; Erci, BehicePurpose The objective of this study was to adopt the Child Feeding Scale (CFS) to the Turkish language and culture and to assess the validity and the reliability of the Turkish version of the scale. Methods The research was methodological study design. A convenience sample of 158 mothers at a primary health care center completed a structured questionnaire including the CFS for mothers in 2008. Results In the assessment of construct validity, seven factors were identified; they related to Perceived Responsibility, Perceived Parent Weight, Perceived Child Weight, Concern About Child Weight, Pressure to Eat, Restriction, and Monitoring. The seven factors explained 57.6% of the total variance. The overall internal reliability coefficient of this scale was .75. Conclusions The present study provides evidence of the CFS's validity and reliability. The scale has potential applications for use in research. The CFS can be used to assess aspects of child-feeding perceptions, attitudes, and practices and their relationships to children's developing food acceptance patterns, the control of food intake and obesity. This qualitative phenomenological study was conducted to examine the spirituality of children with academic mothers in Turkey. The children were asked how their mothers' academic careers affected their spiritual states. The data were collected through in-depth face-to-face interviews and evaluated using content analysis. A total of 21 children participated in the study. Three main themes and five subthemes were determined in the analysis. These themes were (1) the negative effects of mothers' academic careers on the spiritual statuses of their children (negative emotions, decreased communication in their families, and disruption of home routines), (2) the positive effects of mothers' academic careers on the spiritual statuses of their children (positive emotions and financial independence), and (3) the children's expectations of their mothers.
