Öğe Environmental attitude of young and adult individuals: The sample of Izmir(Wfl Publ, 2011) Saricam, Sibel Yigiter; Kara, Baris; Nurlu, EnginThe aim of present study was to determine the environmental attitude of people living in Izmir city and trend in their attitude depending on age. Subjects completing questionnaire were divided into two age groups, young and adult, considering social and economic structure of Turkey. The study was conducted in the nine districts of Izmir city (Balcova, Bornova, Buca, Cigli, Gaziemir, Guzelbahce, Karsiyaka, Konak and Narlidere), which is the third largest city for population. Size of sample was 396 with an accuracy rate of 95% considering the population of study area. Simple randomized sampling method was used to choose people completing questionnaire forms. Environmental Attitude Questionnaire (EAQ) involved totally 11 questions, 10 of which were prepared for the determination of environmental attitude and one was for the age groups. Chi-square, correlation and regression tests were used to evaluate the results of the questionnaire. It was found that young and adult individuals have high environmental attitude and age groups have no statistical significant effects on environmental attitude.Öğe Planning of Izmir-Karaburun Peninsula as Biosphere Reserve Area(Foundation Environmental Protection & Research-Fepr, 2010) Saricam, Sibel Yigiter; Erdem, UmitBiosphere Reserve Areas are a special category which includes the conservation attempts without alienating from human. The areas of special international interest in terms of natural and cultural resources are officially registered by the Man and The Biosphere Program of UNESCO from 1970. Only one of the 531 biosphere areas from 105 countries in the World belongs to our country (Camili (Macahel) Village - Artvin). The research aims to present the biosphere reserve concept which is new for our country, to attract attention to Karaburun Peninsula which is a significant area in global scale and to find a way for the conservation-usage problem of the area. In accordance with this purpose, in the first step the biological and cultural significance of the area and threatening factors have been described. Zoning of biosphere reserve area has been carried out in accordance with priority and targets of conservation-usage on species which are needed to be conserved, habitats and area usage basis. In consequence of zoning, 8% of the area is determined as Core Zone which bases the conservation, 48% as Buffer Zone which permits controlled usage and supports conservation and 44% as Development Zone.Öğe The role of education on environmental consciousness: A case study in Izmir, Turkey(Wfl Publ, 2011) Kara, Baris; Saricam, Sibel Yigiter; Nurlu, EnginIn the present study, consciousness levels of the people living in Izmir city were determined and their trend depending on education was evaluated. It was aimed to offer cares to be taken to increase consciousness levels. Public opinion about environmental matters was investigated using a standard questionnaire form. The questionnaire was applied to volunteers living in the districts of Balcova, Bornova, Buca, Cigli, Gaziemir, Guzelbahce, Karsiyaka, Konak and Narlidere in Izmir. It was found that environmental problems are not among the most important problems on public agenda in Turkey. However, it was the second most important problem of Izmir. Distorted urbanisation was found to be both Turkey and Izmir's most important environmental problem when considered all education levels. Other important environmental matters were sequenced as air, water, noise and radioactive pollution types. Housing areas were found by all education groups to be responsible for air, water and noise pollution.
